Hey, Guys, Look Over There!
When it comes to distraction, no one plays the game as poorly as Trump and his band of Not-so-Merry men. And you’d think that with all the practice they’ve had, they’d be better at it by now.
While the MSM was still laughing at the “Obama tapped my wires” story, and rolling their eyes at the mere mention of Susan Rice’s criminality, it appears that something a bit more shock-and-awe-ish was required. And so we were treated to the Syria Shuffle, a wag-the-dog show if ever there was one.
Everything was carefully put in place, right down to the official pic of Mr. Tangerine Man and his cohorts gathered in the situation room, trying their best to look like this was serious business – ya know, just like the pic of Obama and his advisors watching the take-down of Bin Laden, but this time without the smarts.
Rumour has it that a planned photo-op of Trump holding a megaphone while shouting “Can you hear us now” was scrapped – not because it was considered over-the-top, but because the Trumpster standing on the 18th hole while doing so lacked the hoped-for gravitas.
Of course there was the obligatory “the president addresses the nation” moment – which, I have to say, lacks the usual emotion and drama when the pResident in question IS in question. Nuthin’ says nuthin’ like a know-nothing Idiot pretending to know anything other than what his trusted advisors tell him to do – and when those trusted advisors are caught in the revolving door of you’re in/you’re out on a daily basis, it’s impossible to know who knows what from one news cycle to the next.
I guess someone should have mentioned to His Orangeness that telling the other side to leave Dodge before they get their hair mussed doesn’t exactly translate into “and I really mean it!” (That being said, I suppose this particular pResident would see getting one’s hair mussed as the ultimate threat.)
One good thing about this whole event (other than the obvious guffaws) is the fact that it separated the wheat from the chaff where certain MSM bobble-heads are concerned. Comments from slack-jawed commentators about how Trump “became a president tonight” were sadly reminiscent of dialogue from a failed TV series pilot, where the bumbling reporter has an epiphany and suddenly realizes that the jerk he’s been writing about has turned into Lincoln/Jesus/Superman overnight.
When all is said and done, the obvious fact remains that Donald Trump & Co. is STILL under investigation for probable collusion with Russia in a blatant attempt to undermine our democracy and its election process.
How many Tomahawk missiles does it take to convince the American citizenry that Trump is not Putin’s bitch? Apparently more than fifty-nine – especially when their supposed targets are warned ahead of time to clear the area long enough for a so-called president to feign tears over “beautiful dead babies” – a cry particularly poignant coming from the man who said his proposed ban on Syrian refugees was not just about terrorism, but also “a matter of quality of life”.
I guess this is another one of those moments where we’re not supposed to take the pResident literally or seriously – or vice versa, as the case may be – because nothing could be more threatening than beautiful dead babies who would have threatened our quality of life had they and their families been welcomed here as refugees.
And it goes like it goes – just another day in the puleeeeze don’t talk about my ties to Russia gambit that invariably leads to yet another face-palm heard ‘round the world.
While the gutless Republicans, the brain-dead MSMers, and the low-fo voters who supported this jerk-in-chief laud his faux strength along with his feigned concern, those of us with functioning brains are left where we’ve been all along: unimpressed, unamused, and anxiously awaiting the next Russian-ties story that we all know is forthcoming.
In a world rife with falling shoes, a country patiently waits for the next piece of footwear to fall.
