Cop who bloodied United passenger suspended pending thorough review of situation

http://www.rawstory.com/2017/04/cop-who-bloodied-united-passenger-suspended-pending-thorough-review-of-situation/

An aviation security officer who was involved a dragging a screaming man off of a United Airlines flight Sunday night, leaving the passenger battered and bloody, has been suspended.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the unidentified cop was placed on leave Monday afternoon.

The officer was suspended “pending a thorough review of the situation,” the Chicago Department of Aviation said in a statement. “The incident on United Flight 3411 was not in accordance with our standard operating procedure and the actions are obviously not condoned by the department.”

to the destination. Why they waited until the plane had been boarded and everyone seated to decide this is a complete mystery, along with why they didn't ask for volunteers.

The airline were assholes. The cops were assholes. And if this guy is a doctor, the lawsuit will be spectacular.

I had to decline because I needed to get back to Boston while the subways were running, not at 2 AM when they'd stopped.

I've boycotted United the last few years, because they had a habit of cancelling flights and putting me on one a full day later. They used to have top customer service, but that vanished about ten years ago.

No one should be treated that way. No matter what. It was caused by United's actions and those of the police who came in to enforce company policies.

6. Their priority system for bumping:
Mon Apr 10, 2017, 05:36 PM
Apr 2017
From the Chicago Tribune article to which the OP links:

At that point, United's contract of carriage says the airline can select passengers to bump to a later flight, based on a priority system that can take into account how much passengers paid, how often they fly, whether missing that flight could affect a connecting flight and how early they checked in. People with disabilities and unaccompanied minors are generally last to be bumped.

United passenger removal fiasco is a reminder of an open secret in the airline industry, 4/10/17
...It’s not random, it’s “in accordance with UA’s boarding priority.” That means that if you have a certain type of fare class—you may not even know these exist—a complex itinerary, status (e.g. gold or platinum), have checked in early, or have frequent flier card, you are less likely to be asked to take the next flight. Even if it’s just a free frequent flier card that you never use, it might save you from being asked to leave..

A Chinese reason

“He was kind of saying that he was being singled out because he’s a Chinese man” when speaking to the manager, who was African-American, Bridges said. “You should know what this is like,” the man said, according to Bridges. The AP was unable to confirm the passenger’s identity

What if that man had a bad back, or some other injury? I highly doubt the security inquired before dragging him off the seat.
