Trip from hell courtesy of United Air Lines

Five or six years ago, I took a business trip from Austin, TX to Dulles airport (DC) to Syracuse, NY, flying on United Air Lines. My flight from Austin to Dulles was delayed from taking off because the sink in the rear lavatory overflowed, and the water had to be mopped up before the plane could take off. While waiting for the delay, we were entertained by United employees running up and down the aisle with mops. The flight departed Austin approximately 1pm CT.

Because of the delay, I missed a connecting flight in Dulles that was going to Syracuse. United re-booked me on a later flight, however, that flight would not depart Dulles until 9:30pm ET. So, I had a four hour layover in the Dulles airport. Then, that flight was delayed four hours due to weather. Finally, the flight from Dulles to Syracuse departed at 1:30am ET. The plane landed in Syracuse, as I recall, around 2:15am ET. There was a really long wait for baggage, about an hour. Since it was after 3am in the morning, it took a really long time to get a taxi, and even then, I had to share the taxi with another of my fellow passengers on that flight from Dulles. I arrived at my hotel at 3:45am.

Because this was a business trip, I was obligated to start working at 8:00am, with about three hours of sleep.

and they don't have to. It is everything that's wrong with corporate America. I posted this in another thread but I own a business and there have been lots of times that one of our staff or I screws something up. It happens, we're human and we're a team. Our policy is to fix it at our expense, apologize and make sure our customer is comfortable with the resolution. That's what civilized people do. It has worked for us and our customers keep coming back. Don't count on airlines corporations doing anything of the sort. This will go to court and be a big fat mess.
