The first protest in space just happened, and it was against Donald Trump

The first protest in space just happened, thanks to the Autonomous Space Agency Network (yes that's Nasa backwards), and ever better: it was against Donald Trump.

The team printed out a giant tweet from their own Twitter account, which read “LOOK AT THAT, YOU SON OF A BITCH,” tagging Trump’s personal Twitter account.

They then attached the sign to a weather balloon and flew it at 90,000 feet.

The reason they wrote this on their tweet was because Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell, the sixth person to ever walk on the moon, once said:

From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, 'Look at that, you son of a bitch.'

1. Mitchell was a bit of a kook (UFO/psychic nonsense), but he was right about this.

Happy to R&K this thread.

2. I Have Always Held To The Premise.......

that every national leader should be taken into space as part of the qualifications for the job. There are no lines drawn on the Earth. Squabbling over little corners of the planet would be revealed for the pettiness that it is. The notion that we're all in this together would become a stark reality, both by looking at Earth and seeing it for what it is and by seeing our home in the context of the vastness of space.

(Just an aside-I would not give Donald Trump a return ticket from that trip )

I remember hearing about John Young's smuggled sandwich, but didn't know Wally Schirra had given it to him!

I was lucky enough to see Schirra, one of my heroes, speak before an auditorium full of NASA people at Cape Canaveral in the late '80s. He got a long and warm ovation before he even started speaking. He seemed super cool, relaxed, and confident, as I knew he would. He also had an obvious great pride in the space program and strong affection for the people behind it.

6. They'll try to debunk

the fact we went to the moon and all the scientific breakthroughs we have hod from that and claim the moon is made of cheese. Limburger cheese.
