Is it possible N. Korea sabotaged it's own missile test as a way to save face?

It seems a clever way to make it look like your a tough guy willing to stand up to the US but because it blew up the US can't really go through with its promised retaliation which could have lead to who knows what? Kind of a win, win for everyone except Trump who I know would love to keep the news off of his Keystone Cops presidency.

Is it possible U.S. spies sabotaged the missile test to embarrass Kim Jong Un?

Is it possible U.S. spies launched *and* sabotaged the missile test to embarrass Kim Jong Un *and* create a pretext for war?

Fun!

He would have to order the failure and that would show weakness in front of his millitary. Weakness is the last thing he wants to show his officers.

But it failed spectacularly because either 1) the people in charge put lower level incompetents in power (to be fall guys and gotten rid of) or 2) the competent people are all rid of and there's no possibility for success.

Maybe he's still got some relatives he can blame for it so he can use them for ack-ack shooting practice.

If not that, then there's always the bragging rights.
