Depends on the amount of overweening pride possessed by the person.

Once had a student so insistent that he maintain his dignity by being correct on a point argued into a corner. He had the choice to deny that he had grandparents who had given birth to his biological parents.

He denied that he had biological grandparents. "Nobody gave birth to my parents."

When he later realized he'd claimed either his parents were hatched, the result of a special creation, or resulted from spontaneous generation and that he'd announced to all the world he was a vain-glorious fool to the point others were mocking him openly, he spent quite a bit of time with his head down and tuned out. (All things considered, this was a great improvement in his behavior and had no effect whatsoever on his grades.)

He was not conservative. Granted, he did have strong nationalist and supremacist leanings, but that's redundant information given what I've already written. What's novel is that he was into black nationalism.
