For custody-trial, Alex Jones claims his persona is just a character, a fraud, performance art.

http://fusion.net/alex-jones-defense-in-upcoming-custody-battle-is-that-1794370575

The man who claims the Sandy Hook Elementary School Massacre was staged will be in a Texas courtroom over the next two weeks to argue that he is mentally fit to maintain custody of his three kids. To prove this, Jones’ attorneys will say the InfoWars boss and friend of Donald Trump is a fraud.

To be fair, that’s not exactly what the attorneys are arguing. Rather, attorney Randall Wilhite told a judge during a pretrial hearing that Jones is a “performance artist,” according to a report in the Austin-American Statesman, which is covering the lengthy (and expensive) custody dispute.

The children’s mother, Kelly Jones, believes that not only is Jones a bad parent, he also poses a threat to their three kids. And she doesn’t buy the argument that his InfoWars persona is an act.

-----------

There you have it.

Alex Jones will claim in court that everything he says on Infowars is merely entertainment and not truthful.

Maybe we should remind him of that next time he claims that:
The deep-state is planning a putsch against Trump.
Obama funded the Arab Spring.
The Obama-family laundered the money that financed the Arab Spring.
Merkel's immigrant-policy re Germany is actually orchestrated by Obama to have Jihadists take over Germany.
Obama is not the father of his kids.

On the condition that Jones himself say it, live on air, before and after every single commercial break.

'This is just entertainment, nothing I say has any factual or journalistic integrity whatsoever. Now, back to paying for little johnnys college thanks for staying with us.'

He would be off the air in 10 days.

Jones, Limbaugh, Hannity, etc. etc. Their job is to draw an audience to listen to/watch/read the ads. They do that by telling the audience what the audience wants to hear. They're performing, and their idiot listeners take them seriously.

Not that he's any less reprehensible, but i can believe that he doesn't really think any of his junk is true. He's just fleecing the gullible. Like many others of his ilk in conservative media, his primary skill is self-promotion.

Bill Maher is famously "just a comedian" when it suits him to be just a comedian, but for some reason people still hang on his every word.

Jones won't lose even a single follower over this.

his fans invariably tout what they perceive as his wisdom and courage in speaking truth to power, meanwhile overlooking his transphobia and his support of child rape.

Even if Jones' fans were to acknowledge that he's simply an entertainer, they would say the same thing, touting what they perceive as his wisdom and courage in speaking truth to power.

Maher isn't pretending to be someone he is not (as far as we know) or saying blatantly untrue kooky conspiracies are true to gin up nutbar followers.

The closest any comedian comes to that is Colbert - but that's part of his shtick. Only dumbfuck right wingers can't grasp the concept.

It's apparent that you didn't actually read my post, so I'll give you some time to try again.

My beef is not with the "comedian" who says he's a comedian. I reject Maher because he's transphobic and supports child rape. He is also sexist, misogynist and Islamophobic.

Satire and comedy in politics has been around forever. "Many a true words are spoken in jest"
Which is a great reason to accept that his transphobia, sexism, misogyny, Islamophobia and endorsement of child rape are also true.

But he's a sacred idol for some, so he gets a pass. And you want to pretend that I have an axe to grind? Now that's funny.

what was the purpose of his show. What was he trying to accomplish with it? His answer (paraphrased) was that the purpose of the show was to get advertisers to pay the highest rates possible.

This is incredibly important and it is true of every commercial program in existence, including straight news shows. The advertisers are their customers. They are paid by the advertisers to deliver an audience to watch/listen to/read the ads. That is the service they provide.

There's a blustery afternoon radio guy in the Pittsburgh market who proudly (and routinely) declares the same thing, that his goal is to make money, and the more people he pisses off, the more money he makes.

In all things, follow the money.
