On this issue, I'm going with Donald Trump

There are a number of threads pointing out that Donald Trump wasn't in Church yesterday. Well, neither was I and neither, I suspect, were a lot of Christians. Whatever Evangelicals think of him, he's never passed himself off as an observant Christian, so I don't care at all what he does or doesn't do on Easter. Nor do I think that President Obama being in Church yesterday is indicative of better behavior.

Plenty of this to beat up Trump about; this isn't one of them.

postured as religious at times.

Most recently, disgustingly, and alarmingly when he portrayed our bombing of that Syrian air field as serving god's wishes. Several times in one speech. (I was glad he at least didn't speak of a "crusade" into the ME. Apparently that's still considered to have not worked well for W.)

Trump has worn his religion on his sleeve in the past. It's completely fair game. The "out" you are giving him is truly based off of fallacious reasoning.

"The Bible tells us how good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity,” Trump using his religion to bullshit the American people at his inauguration.

"Nor do I think that President Obama being in Church yesterday is indicative of better behavior." At the individual level it is absolutely indicative of better behavior. Obama has openly shown anyone willing to listen as to how he leans on his religious views for decision making. Some of us were listening.

Beating up on this motherfucker for not going to church just puts us in the same basket as some dumb ass evangelicals.

I loathe Pussy Grabber beyond description, but it's not because he didn't go to church. He's done enough 'real' stuff other than the church bullshit.

Nonetheless, what IS interesting is that the fundies aren't beating up on him for not going. . . . That just underscores their hypocrisy.

The point of the OP is that we shouldn't - no one should - be focusing on churchgoing habits of politicians. It's unhealthy. It does not belong to our republic.

Everyone talking about this mistruth is:

1) Making the left/Dems/progressives look stupid and desperate/weak, because he did go, which anyone who knows how to google would realize:
http://pagesix.com/2017/04/17/donald-trump-the-main-attraction-at-easter-service/

and 2) fostering the idea in the general public that a politician's faith/lack of faith somehow has to do with his/her qualifications for office.

I never, ever want to see again that horrible "faith panel" from Hillary Clinton's first run. It should be the cardinal rule in this nation that religion is off the books and out of politics. They do not properly mix. This is not a beast we want to feed.

But of course, people like you who are willing to jump on a bandwagon like this are building the idea that Trump's appearing at a service is somehow an important issue, and performing the triple somersault feat of ALSO giving those who agree with Trump's politics have another talking point about how deluded and hypocritical the left is.

To most people, truth does matter. The OP's position doesn't give anyone anything to beat us over the head with, does it? It's rational, it's principled, and it's coherent with the Democratic stance on politics and religion.

The dig is against the holy roller hypocrites that insist that only Republicans can be Christians, and a strong Christian leader as President is therefore paramount in value.

When a guy comes around who doesn't fit that profile, they lie and say he does.

That's what the issue is. He's being heralded as something that he is not, exposing yet again that all their talking points are mere gibberish.

tweet a picture of you with Jesus, praying away the haters?

Are you a serial molester who puts a cloak of sanctity over your serial molesting ass when it suits you? (That's all, of course, rhetorical. I know you are not.)

It isn't the church attendance or non attendance as much as it is the fact that he pays lip service to religion and all his hypocritical pious followers choose to turn a blind eye to his hypocrisy.

I think it's good to point it out when it happens.

FWIW apparently Trump DID go to church on Easter Sunday:
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory/trump-attends-easter-service-episcopal-church-46829302

OTOH going to church and claiming you're a Christian (which he has) while proposing budget cuts to and eliminating totally very needed benefits for the poor, seniors, disabled and children makes you a hypocritical mucksucker.

Yes...
Repug45 is a lying, pandering, snake oil seller who suckered a bunch of holier than thou evangelicals
into thinking he could be saved...
Just so they could justify supporting him
In exchange for the opportunity to make their 'beliefs' the law of the land.

So, beyond the obvious importantance of publicly pointing out examples of how his words & actions continue to disappoint his supporters...

which, in the case of evangelicals, would be addressed by citing his church related activities...

There really should be no media attention given to his attendance/non-attendance of any religious services.....
