I would hate to go through life that ignorant, arrogant, self obsessed, and fearful that some day the bright lights will go out and the constant flattery will cease.

And they will, too.

constant attention and praise. He has to be the best at everything, and he has to have people telling him that he's the best. He really is pathetic, when you think about it. Most of us are comfortable with the realization that we're not the best at everything - maybe we're good at just a few things; maybe we're not even especially good at anything, and we have no chance at ever being rich or famous, but we have friends and family and all kinds of reasons to enjoy life without being constantly adored. Maybe all we need to feel content is some music to listen to or perform, or a walk in the park on a nice day, or a good book, or a cat on the lap. I don't think Trump derives any happiness from anything that doesn't involve other people's fawning opinions of him. He can't survive in his own head. That's sad.

I pity the fool. For the reasons you state. But that doesn't mean I don't hate him as well. Mostly for realizing he is those things but doubling down on it, refusing to apologize to anyone he has wronged, being willfully ignorant, or worse spitefully unconcerned, of the pain his and the GOPs policies are doing to people, and no desire to work to make himself a better man.

As a Buddhist, I believe that hate makes people stupid. It's one thing to hate bad behavior, and quite another to hate the person doing the bad behavior. Or as the Christians say, hate the sin and love the sinner. In my Buddhist tradition, we have the notion of a Boddhisattva, who is a very pure and enlightened person, who works diligently for the liberation from suffering for all sentient beings. Liberate all sentient beings before gaining one's own liberation. No one gets left behind. Not a Hitler, not a Stalin, not a Trump, not a serial killer. Not a wife beater. Not a con artist. No one gets left behind. No one.

Or doesn't want to do or stop doing whatever it is that gets one not left behind.

Not me! I'm asking for a friend.

5. Wanting to stay in the realm of samsara?
Mon Apr 17, 2017, 06:32 PM

Samsara is the realm of suffering, where we are. It is a realm where everything ultimately proves to be unsatisfactory. Wanting to stay in samsara for whatever reason is a delusion. A boddhisattva would endeavor to help someone clearly see the truth of suffering. We can't actually liberate anyone else; we can only liberate ourself. But a boddhisattva can teach and help someone to recognize the difference between delusion-confusion and the clarity that wisdom brings. So to the degree that someone wants to stay in samsara, that's where he/she will stay until they are ready to work towards attaining liberation. When you're ready to do that, you'll know it.

it is easy for me to imagine a few who would not want to give up
whatever it is that causes them suffering, because they so identify
with it and even with their suffering. In fact i just had an idea
for a story, the one who will not give up his suffering, while everyone
else is liberated and waiting for him to awaken, tapping their fingers
and rolling their eyes.

I've got the no hate thing down pretty good. I'm working on negative
thoughts, regrets, anger, worrying etc. I am finally able, at 66 years old, to
recognize when these thoughts come into my head, and head them
off at the pass. My first wife, a wise lady, once told me that all of your
thoughts are prayers--In that you allow their energy to move you.
But I still have much work to do.

Rush Limbaugh and Right wing hate radio. But we have no control over any of it, other than a little switch that you can flip off, and remove the noise.

The Republicans are despicable as well, and they we have to pay attention to them, or they will steal the silverware.

It sucks up a lot of energy and keeps you distracted from more helpful thoughts.

I failed, I really do hate him.
