Forget seeing his taxes, I want to see:

The IRS letter informing him that he is under audit. Have you seen a copy of the actual letter from the government?

Sure, his lawyers have produced a letter but I want to see a copy of the letter from the IRS.

Until I see that, I will not believe he is actually under audit.

That said, he can release his 2016 taxes when he submits them (today?) since they will not be under audit at that time.

first i've heard of this.

presidents have made their tax returns public, so anyone can scrutinize them, this is the first i've heard any suggestion that the irs automatically audits them.

do you have a link to support this?

http://money.cnn.com/2017/04/17/news/economy/president-audit-trump/ (hope this helps)

The process for auditing the return of the president and vice president is very precisely spelled out in the manual, including the instruction that their returns must be filed in an orange folder.

Only specified personnel may see the returns. And they must be locked in a secure drawer or cabinet whenever the appointed IRS examiner won't be present.

Their audits also must be handled relatively quickly. "The returns require expeditious handling at all levels to ensure prompt completion of the examinations," according to the manual.

The IRS didn't offer a formal rationale for auditing the president and vice president every year. Part of it may be to make sure the highest officers in the government are adhering to the law, tax historian Joseph Thorndike surmised.

and yet, Every President since that era have released their taxes -- even though they were under audit -- 45 has run out of excuses.

frankly if i were president i'd actually *want* my return audited, given that i would be making my return public anyway.

i'd want it properly checked!

if he is truly under audit, there would be a letter from the IRS saying so.

At least provide proof of his lame excuse.

he would eventually catch on that the irs is on to him, and he needs to file an honest fucking return.

and they cant all be in audit. i think the statute is 7 years. so anything more than that CANT be under audit.
