Alex Jones trial is interesting look into the conservative matrix

" (Dr.)...Sherry, who served as the case manager for Jones’ family therapy sessions, testified that a diagnosis for NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) was present in Jones’ case file when she first started working with him. She also said that Jones’ narcissism might explain an incident in which he yelled at his own daughter for wearing a special walking boot on her foot after she broke her toe.

I'm fairly certain there's even more to the diagnosis than NPD, because Jones lies about the weirdest things. Like testifying under oath that he forgot facts about his children because he had chili for lunch. "

DSM-5 criteria for narcissistic personality disorder include these features:

•Having an exaggerated sense of self-importance
•Expecting to be recognized as superior even without achievements that warrant it
•Exaggerating your achievements and talents
•Being preoccupied with fantasies about success, power, brilliance, beauty or the perfect mate
•Believing that you are superior and can only be understood by or associate with equally special people
•Requiring constant admiration
•Having a sense of entitlement
•Expecting special favors and unquestioning compliance with your expectations
•Taking advantage of others to get what you want
•Having an inability or unwillingness to recognize the needs and feelings of others
•Being envious of others and believing others envy you
•Behaving in an arrogant or haughty manner

The comparisons to Jones and Trump are obvious. What is scary is this Mayoclinic symptoms includes the following:

At the same time, you have trouble handling anything that may be perceived as criticism. You may have secret feelings of insecurity, shame, vulnerability and humiliation. To feel better, you may react with rage or contempt and try to belittle the other person to make yourself appear superior. Or you may feel depressed and moody because you fall short of perfection.

I mean I'm sure narcissism plays but a small part of the whole picture. People like Alex Jones, Bill O'Reilly, Donald Trump, and Ann Coulter don't just lie a little - they lie compulsively, frequently, and often. They lie like it's a bodily function. Telling the truth is something that they don't know how to do, or care about doing. Admitting that someone else did something better than them or that doesn't fit their narrative is something that they will never, ever do.

Pathological narcissists are reported to be compulsive liars because they lie to make themselves look better than they really are.

There have been absolutely no consequences for lying, so most of the time a liar achieves their goal, or the matter is just dropped. All the people mentioned above are financially successful largely as a result of lying. Kids lie to get out of trouble and it works far more often than not. A pathological liar was elected to the same job once held by George Washington who, legend has it, could not tell a lie. It was once considered one of most disqualifying traits for a position of power until they figured out that it worked.

And we wonder why alternative facts have become the norm?
