Just saying. Bernie couldn't register as a "D" if he wanted.
"There is no party registration in Vermont.
All registered voters can vote in the primary electionbut can only vote on one ballot. You will be given a ballot for each of the major parties. You mark one of the ballots and put the remaining unvoted ballots into a discard bin. Which ballot you chose to vote is private and not recorded (except during the presidential primary, where voters must publicly take one ballot or the other, and their choice is recorded on the entrance checklist)."

(2,897 posts)Parties and primaries still exist in VT. In his last 2 races, Bernie ran in the democratic primary and then declined the nomination to run as an independent. So yeah, Bernie sure as hell could run as a D if he wanted.

(68,552 posts)Patrick Leahy was elected to the United States Senate in 1974 and remains the only Democrat elected to this office from Vermont. At 34, he was the youngest U.S. Senator ever to be elected from the Green Mountain State.

(18,402 posts)The Democratic Party in Vermont has repeatedly asked him to appear on its ticket, and he has repeatedly declined to do so. Many times.
Registration is for voters; we're not talking about voters, but rather candidates for office and elected officials. They certainly DO have a party affiliation in Vermont (as does Sanders: "Independent" .
Try again.
