Totally the other guys fault and the police ticketed him. Still doesn't take away the pain. The worst part is my cat Blue has a fever of 105 and the vet doesn't know why. Not a good day. Time for some drugs for the pain..

(19,558 posts)Please, take care of both of you. If I lived closer I'd bring you some soup and offer to shuttle Blue to the vet for you. Since I live a thousand of miles away, know my thoughts and heart are with you both. Heal easily and fully, and I hope Blue isn't seriously ill.
I have a kitty with an unexplainable fever right now, too. We're some 4 hours from home at a specialist right now. I feel your stress to my core. I just lost my 22 year old kitty in February and now my Boo (13-1/2 years) is sick and no one knows what's wrong with him.
Know my thoughts are with you both tonight.

(251 posts)Seriously don't. Don't sneeze, don't cough, don't move those ribs. Second find a door to sleep against. You won't be able to lay down, sit or do anything that doesn't send jolts of excruciating pain. Pain meds don't help either but they do get you comfortable in to the position you can stand to be in. Cracked ribs are the worst. When you breath, you will feel your bones grind with each breath. Inhale, exhale... And it's 8 to 10 weeks of this. I've been there. Seriously don't laugh. Don't even smile. Even a grin will set it off. Yaaayyyeeeeeowwwweeeee!

(14,487 posts)In January, I broke the cartilage in my ribs. They told me it hurts as much as a broken rib, but heals faster. It was the worst pain I have ever felt! I hope you got some good pain meds and are able to rest comfortably. I hope Blue feels better too.

(17,136 posts)Look after yourself and your moggy. A cat's normal body temperature is 101.5, so it's not as bad as 105 for a human.
Warpy
(111,141 posts)Normal temp for a cat is up to 102, so 105 is serious but survivable. My irascible old tomcat did that once or twice and survived to grump again.
Broken ribs are the worst, nothing much they can do about them except drugs and you can't get comfortable. First two weeks are the worst. Then I don't know if they start to get better or we just start to get used to them. Six weeks is the usual course for healing, although you might be able to forecast the weather with them later on.
I'm glad it was no worse than that.

(11,949 posts)Follow the doctor's orders. And at the first sign of pneumonia get treatment. When I had broken ribs I breathe so shallow I almost got pneumonia.
And I also hope your cat recovers.

tblue37
(65,227 posts)even breathe properly without agony. Your pain has to be a thousand times worse with more than one rib involved and with them broken rather than just cracked.
I am sorry this happened to you, and hope that you heal quickly. I hope, too, that the other guy has really good insurance for your car and your medical costs.
A cat's normal temp is 100° to 102.5°F, so that fever, though high, is not quite as terrifying as it would be in a human. I hope he gets well. One time two of my cats had fevers like that. The vet guessed West Nile. It was rampant that year and mosquitoes were bad that year, too. (West Nile gives cats fever and flu-like symptoms.)

OMG I hope that you are well taken care of medically, and that you are feeling better soon!
Do you have anyone to help care for you, do household things, shop, take your cat to the vet, etc?
I'm thinking about you and hoping for an end to your pain and frustration.
Be well soon

(56,177 posts)The hard part is getting up and down. Carrying anything is out but if I slowly lower myself I can feed the cats. I have friends feeding my feral colonies. The really good news is Blue seems much better today. I can tell her fever is down but she is still mad at me. She blames me for not feeling well.

(14,487 posts)When I hurt my ribs, I literally kicked the cat food bag over so it spilled on the kitchen floor and then turned the sink faucet on to a steady trickle, took my meds and got into bed, sitting upright with lots of pillows.
