There's a plan in Congress to start charging troops for their GI Bill benefits

Source: Military Times

WASHINGTON — A congressional proposal to make service members buy into their Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits surprised veterans groups on Tuesday, with advocates divided over whether it amounts to a long-term fix for the benefit or an unfair bill for veterans.

“This new tax on troops is absurd,” said Veterans of Foreign Wars National Commander Brian Duffy in a statement. “Ensuring veterans are able to successfully transition back to civilian life after military service is a cost of war, and not a fee that Congress can just pass along to our troops.

“Congress must stop nickeling and diming America’s service members and veterans.”

The plan — draft legislation from House Veterans Affairs Committee Chairman Phil Roe, R-Tenn. — would deduct $2,400 from future service members’ paychecks to establish eligibility for revamped post-military education benefits. This was first reported Tuesday by Task & Purpose.

and the military continues to vote for fucking ReTrumplicans.

Guess our Military members and Veterans fall into the "Takers" side as far as ReTrumplicans are concerned

Edited to add: BTW an E2 in the Navy makes approximately $19K a year. I would imagine $2400 a year would be important to someone making $19K a year.

Fuck every last one of these sick fucking ReTrumplicans

1. Thanks for enlisting, now pay for it! : (

I heard this on Phoenix local talk radio yesterday and was dumbfounded. Who on Earth thought this was a good idea, for even a split second? This is another fine example of how our representatives spend time getting nothing done. "Come join the military and fight not only for your country, but pay for your GI benefits!" Are you f'ing kidding me?

Maybe the Republican Party really is the RedPublican party. Every day we learn of some new absurd proposal or actual bill/order being signed that just rolls us more and more back in time and into something unrecognizable as the USA.

Keep calling and writing our Representatives and attending town halls. We have to be heard!

2. You mean to take their benefits away.

However they frame it, it's more stripping away of benefits.

3. republicans pissing on veterans again

republicans never waste a chance to wave the flag and thereby create a FAKE diversion, while then screwing over America's veterans so they can fatten the fat wallets of the fat cats, inc. who line their fatass republican pockets.
