Top National Security Official Leaving Justice Department in Middle of Trump-Russia Investigation

Top National Security Official Leaving Justice Department in Middle of Trump-Russia Investigation

by Associated Press

WASHINGTON — The official leading the Justice Department's investigation into whether President Donald Trump's campaign had ties to Russia's meddling in the 2016 election is leaving her position next month.
Acting Assistant Attorney General Mary B. McCord told the staff of the department's national security division this week she is leaving to pursue other opportunities.

Her departure leaves a major vacancy at a time when several key positions within the department remain unfilled. Attorney General Jeff Sessions' picks for deputy and associate attorney general — the No. 2 and No. 3 officials at the Justice Department — await Senate confirmation, and the Trump administration has not announced other top political appointees. A month after Sessions sought the resignations of the nation's U.S. attorneys, their replacements are not yet in place.

A longtime federal prosecutor, McCord had been acting as head of the national security division since October. The unit oversees cases involving terrorism, espionage, cybercrime and other national security threats. She joined that unit in 2014 after working in the U.S. Attorney's office for the District of Columbia for 20 years.

In her memo, McCord did not reveal what she plans to do next, aside from spending time with her family.

an opportunity to stay out of jail. Oh! I read further and it seems she wants to spend more time with her family. Isn't that what Jason Chaffetz said too? I see conspiracies everywhere too kentuck. I really miss NOT seeing them. Who is looking out for the safety and security of our country?

This ties in with what we know certain members of Congress have been debriefed on behind-closed-doors. They all know something...only question now is...will it come out or will it be covered up?

Could it be that she just flat out doesn't want to deal with the stress and continuous headache that would result from being in charge of an investigation digging into what we've come to believe may be a bottomless pit of criminal goings on?.

I realize she took the job when offered to her but she may be thinking of her family and her mental health after the end of this nightmare.

I don't know if I would want that day after day.

Just my two cents.

I'd never heard of her before the story here, I've heard that she's been doing this type of job for 30 years.

I don't know her political bent so I made a guess as to why she wanted out, in reality I have zero idea but I know I'd rather remove myself from this pending nightmare if I was going to be called on.

But then again, it's what she did for a living so.........

An unknown at this time.
