(62,444 posts)How about they let some tourists visit and travel about for a look-see?
How about they let their own people out and about for a look-see?
How about they let their people watch what they want on TV or listen to foreign radio?
I visited Beijing a while back, which was a closed country for much of my youth. I'm sure there was all kinds of surveillance, just as in, say, London. But nobody was telling me where I could go or what I could photograph.
There is no instagram account originating in the DPRK that isn't showing anything other than what they want to show you.
There are many independent visitors and journalists to the DPRK with consistent reports of how tightly that place is controlled, that nobody is controlling what we know about the DPRK.

It was the people who are critIcal of north korea that were the unreasonable ones.

(29,148 posts)There's nothing in those photos that really disputes the notion that prnk is a tightly controlled dictatorship in which life is difficult in all sorts of ways for all sorts of its citizens. Similarly, the reality that the place is a dictatorship run by a megalomaniacal nut job doesn't mean the people living there aren't human, or don't experience all sorts of moments of joy or pain or even what appears to be normalcy.

(46,301 posts)I used to see the "Maduro can do no wrong" people jumping up and putting out lots of pro-Maduro and Chavez propaganda whenever we questioned Maduro and his goons.
Likewise with Castro.
Apparently now we have a "Kim can do no wrong" propaganda division here.
