Andy's first movie and one of the best in American cinema (my opinion). Why it never got on the AFI's "100 Best" is beyond me.

An Arkansas hobo becomes an overnight media sensation. But as he becomes drunk with fame and power, will he ever be exposed as the fraud he has become?

Sound familiar? Still relevant in today's political culture...

Tue Jul 3, 2012, 11:55 AM
Jul 2012

Toward the end of that hospitalization, I was doing better, but was still sleeping a lot, in short spurts. The television set in my hospital room was set to a channel that mainly played reruns of television programs. It seemed like reruns of the Andy Griffith Show and Matlock ran a lot of the time on the channel, and I hadn't mastered how to use the remote control for the TV, in my foggy state. I'd fall asleep watching one and then wake up and the other one would be on. Since my brain was still somewhat fuzzy, it was confusing and I kept wondering how the show I had been watching had morphed to the other, and couldn't keep track of the plot. It was an interesting mental exercise for my brain, I think.

That's my favorite memory of Andy Griffith.

They said in the beginning he was supposed to be the comic and Barney the straight man, but after doing a couple shows, it became obvious Barney should be the comic and Andy the straight man. Aunt Bee was really good too and of course Oppie.

THE FISHIN' HOLE

Well now, take down your fishing pole and meet me at the fishing hole
We may not get a bite all day, but don’t you rush away
What a great place to rest your bones and mighty fine for skipping stones
You’ll feel fresh as a lemonade a-setting in the shade

Whether it’s hot, whether it’s cool
Oh, what a spot for whistling like a fool

What a fine day to take a stroll and wind up at the fishing hole
I can’t think of a better way to pass the time of day

We’ll have no need to call the roll when we get to the fishing hole
They’ll be you, me, and old dog, trey to do the time away
If we don’t hook a perch or bass we’ll cool our toes in dewy grass
Or else pull up a weed to chaw and maybe sit and jaw

Hanging around, taking our ease
Watching that hound a scratching at his fleas

I’m gonna take down my fishing pole and meet you at the fishing hole
I can’t think of a better way to pass the time of day
