As reported last night on Rachel Maddow:
Mary McCord, the official leading the Justice Department's investigation into whether President Donald Trump's campaign had ties to Russia's meddling in the 2016 election, has decided to step down.
So far, Trump has not appointed anyone to fill her vacated spot.
This person will be the one to decide if the results of the Intel Committees in Congress will result in any action AT ALL. The chances that he'll appoint someone who might turn right around and follow-up on their findings are, shall we say, ... small.
Is there any other reason besides "to pursue other opportunities" that she's choosing now to leave? Is it too hot in that kitchen? Is it as simple as that? She naturally didn't work for the US Attorney's Office for 20 years expecting to land in this hot seat.. But there she is.
And her leaving could have huge consequences for the ultimate fate of the Trump administration .
