I planted two trees and one shrub. I feel like my personal contribution helps, besides I LOVE TREES.
TREES - TREES --- TREES ~~~~ TREES.....
I LOVE TREES!!!

(1,907 posts)We had 15 40-50 foot oaks on or lot. But last year one got toppled by a tornado. The other had a large hole just below the crown of the tree and was seeping all the way down to almost grade level. So that one wasn't going to last much longer. The tree that toppled had more then 15 minutes of fame. The tornado just skipped along touching down and going back up and took out a line of trees in our neighborhood. Had all the local news stations coming out. But our tree was blocking one of the main roads to the subdivision. So all of the camera crews set up by our house and stood by the tree doing their newscasts.

(7,573 posts)planed flowers in my flower beds, and yes I also love trees, but I had to cut down two dead trees as they were fire hazards.

(6,344 posts)Are you going to replace the dead trees? Oh... what a fun project.

(12,368 posts)They will make a gorgeous privacy border. We are a stones throw from the ocean and they don't mind the salt air.

(36,375 posts)I've been harvesting the seeds for decades and have turned into a regular "Johnny Appleseed" of the poppy realm by broadcasting them everywhere. Say the word, and I'll give you all the seeds you need.

(115,587 posts)I have more trees than I know what to do with, so no new trees, but it's time to start planting cool-weather crops. I wanted to go to the March for Science in St. Paul but my creaky old back said no.
I also found some newly-sprouted catnip from last year, so I harvested some for the cats.

(50,911 posts)boots ready and I'm going to clean debris out of a beautiful little lake we have near my home. Others clean up, cut kudzu down and plant native plants throughout the park.
Also, years ago one of my neighbors identified a bunch of unsightly small plots of land around our town. A corner here, a strip next to the sidewalk there. People volunteer to plant them. We all live in apartments without yards, so we get to garden and the plots that used to be junky are now full of flowers all spring and summer. I have one of those.

Cirque du So-What
(25,908 posts)but I do have a fascination with salamanders. I'm especially attuned toward preserving their habitat, as they don't thrive in polluted environments. My ❤ does a leap when I discover them in the wild.

(25,126 posts)This may sound trivial, but I live in an area where water is precious and ever little leak counts. I own a bunch of hose repair kits and each outdoor faucet has battery operated timers.

(13,421 posts)We set up a table that allowed kids and adults to write letters to our congressman telling him why they love science. We collected almost 75 letters. My personal favorite was from a five (and a half!) year old who drew a picture of a volcano. She worked for almost ten minutes on that picture.
The letters will be scanned and archived as part of a permanent display at the University of Illinois. Once they are scanned, the originals will be delivered to the congressman's office.
