Bill Nye the Science Guys Mom Was a Top-Secret WWII Code Breaker

from 2015, but in light of how important his message is now, worth reposting.

You may already be familiar with Bill Nye, the scientist and former host of ‘Bill Nye the Science Guy,’ but you probably don’t know that he is the son of a Navy veteran who served WWII in an unusual way.

During WWII, Jacqueline Jenkins-Nye was recruited for the Allied code breaker team, which used German Enigma machines to decipher encrypted messages. Their ability to crack multi-layered codes allowed the Allies to end the war two years early.

Since her work was classified, Jenkins-Nye’s contribution to the war was kept secret. This revelation came to light during a clip of an upcoming documentary starring Nye.

His father was a POW in a Japanese prison camp, and he made sundials to pass the time. His son inherited his fascination with sundials.
