To Ivanka Trump. Don't ever think to speak for me about empowering women again.

You attended the W20 Summit as the U.S. representative, which means you were attempting to speak for the women of America.

As one of those women, I say - No.

Your non-answer answers on the struggles of women everywhere merely exposed how clueless you really are on the subject.

Your comments about needing smart policies without once mentioning a single smart policy your father has enacted or even considered was pure smoke and mirrors not lost on the rest of the panel at all. One panel member even called you out, politely, on how racism discourages the empowerment of all women. How health-care, a subject she boldly stated the entire panel was dancing around - for your benefit - was pivotal to empowering women.

You sat there - smiling. On display. No substance. Nothing to offer but your daddy's name.

So, please, in the future, stop pretending you give a fuck.

Signed...

A woman not in the mood to suffer your privilege gladly.

as is her hubby, for a future Trump "dynasty" (emphasis on the 'nasty') that "The Donald" dreams of for his family. Jared as President, White House Barbie as First Lady, and down the line, and so-on and so-forth. Little Barron would be the crowning glory of the Trump dynasty (emphasis on the 'nasty') and the Trumps would eventually surpass the Bush family in American Presidential history.

At least that's my take on it. I can't see this grand dream of Trump's ever getting off the ground, especially since Trump is about as popular as a herpes outbreak right now.

That lifeless monotone. DRIVES ME CRAZY!!!

Expressionless voice. Matches her mostly-expressionless face. With the face, I wonder if it's Botox. She's of the age when wealthy society women start tweaking their faces with injections and fillers and so forth. Which means she'll probably wind up looking like a gargoyle when she's 50.

Once you start with that shit, in far many cases, you can't stop. The first facelift holds for a couple of years. But then gravity starts taking its toll, and you have to go in and get a little "update." And that holds for a couple more years, and then you have to go have that "fixed." And THAT holds up for a couple more years, until gravity again takes the lead, and ...

Tue Apr 25, 2017, 09:19 AM
Apr 2017

This is a quote from her book, "The Trump Card."

Perception is more important than reality. If someone perceives something to be true, it is more important than if it is in fact true... This doesn't mean you should be duplicitous or deceitful, but don't go out of your way to correct a false assumption if it plays to your advantage.

Ivanka Trump is a very dangerous person because she is perceived by many to be a stabilizing influence on her father. I believe she is an enabler of the first order.

but I can already feel my blood pressure rising even thinking about watching it!

Even watching this makes me sick:

This article from Elle keeps coming to mind:

Ivanka Trump Will Not Fix "Women's Issues"—She Will Distract From Them

...

Her work isn't feminism, but femvertising.

Patriarchy has always had room for the Exceptional Woman—the one woman smart enough, sweet enough, strong enough, soft enough, pure enough, sexy enough to satisfy all of our culture's contradictory demands on women, and thus make it to the top of a sexist system on merit alone. Patriarchy needs that woman. She provides men with an excuse to blame women for their own pain and struggles while simultaneously assuring women that sexism only needs to be outwitted to be overcome. She tells us that the system is survivable for women—you simply have to be the right kind of woman.

Exceptional Women don't exist in real life. No one is unaffected by sexism; no woman, no matter how well-behaved, is ever safe. But some women, by dint of privilege and good luck, are fairly convincing avatars. This year's Exceptional Woman is Ivanka Trump, and she's such a convincing Exceptional Woman that she's helped make a self-confessed sexual predator who ran the most openly misogynist presidential campaign in modern history palatable to a large number of Americans.

Of course, Trumpism is unsurvivable for women who do not happen to be exceptional Ivankas. "Being the best mother you can be" probably doesn't sound aspirational to a woman who's lost her birth control due to the repeal of Obamacare and can't abort her resulting pregnancy due to increased state abortion restrictions, lack of federal funding, and/or the overturning of Roe. The support staff who provide Ivanka's soothing greige lifestyle—domestic and child care workers who are predominantly female—will not find their work-life balance enhanced by child care proposals that don't cover the cost of caring for their own children, or by the lack of a livable minimum wage.

The goal of Trumpism is not to benefit women. The goal is to benefit one woman, Ivanka, or the one type of woman she represents. She provides her father with a human credential and downplays his sexism; in exchange, she gains an invaluable boost for her aspirational lifestyle brand (only $10,800 for the bracelet Ivanka wore on 60 Minutes!) and the opportunity to charge strangers $50,000 for a "coffee chat," thus proving that women really can succeed after all. We're not meant to benefit from her; we're meant to look at her, and think about how we can be more like her. We're meant to blame ourselves for falling short, as we have with every other Exceptional Woman to date. Ivanka is the Disney princess; we're the peasant chorus members who watch, and serve, and sigh at her pretty hair. Hell, maybe we'll even pitch in some background vocals on a few of the big musical numbers. Peasants always do, in those movies, even though they're probably all starving.

In Trump world, how a woman appears to men is how her value is based. And the way women naturally look is never good enough. Every time I see Trump's expensively surgically altered wife and daughter, I am reminded of this fact. Not exactly the most "empowering" message for women and girls.

Ivanka Trump now serves in a nebulous but powerful role in the White House. As is the case with her husband, former newspaper owner and real estate developer Jared Kushner, her main qualification for being there is that she happens to be family with President Trump.

On Tuesday, Ivanka was in Berlin to represent the United States in a panel at the W20 Summit, an international convention dedicated to the “economic empowerment of women.” The moderator of Ivanka’s W20 panel pulled no punches, asking her right away to clarify her White House role.

An audible groan went up as she told the room her father was a "tremendous champion of supporting families and enabling them to thrive".

...and Prince Consort are what I call them because of their entirely unearned inherited privilege.

In reality, all of the remaining Royals of Europe reign over Constitutional monarchies -- so they and their extended families are raised from birth to have some sense of public duty and patriotism.

Not so for the scions of the Trump Business Empire. Even before the Mad King lost his marbles, it was run as an absolute monarchy answerable to no one. There is no patriotism -- banks and money flow are borderless. There is no public duty -- their only peers are other billionaires and oligarchs.

Thank you for pointing out the sheer offensiveness of Ivanka saying she and Daddy care about women and children. It would be so much better if they (especially she) stopped pretending to give a fuck.

I've heard Ivanka's a real asshole... no surprise there.
She comes off as not very bright but very manipulative.

...but I wonder what she was trying to accomplish having Ivanka there. To surround her with strong, intelligent women and educate her, mayhaps?

I have my doubts about IT being influenced by the women around her today. More like IT felt she an equal - which she so clearly is not.

But maybe...maybe.

Thank you for this post. I've ruminated over her presence there all day. Over on the Twitter there's a link to a Chris Cillizza article defending her for defending him- all because, he says, almost every daughter would in any situation where their father is under attack. No, not a daughter with a moral compass. But yes, a daughter who profits from that father's position and who has not one ounce of embarrassment over her own lack of self respect.
That said, I can now go to work at Job #2 today.

You should try this whole work thing, Ivanka- it's something lots of us have to do.

86. Who better to speak for women's empowerment than a woman whose daddy bought her a new face?

She knows the POWER of not living with the boring face she was born with! Now she is revered as a goddess in China because daddy made her look like Malibu Barbie! That is such an empowering lesson for all of us women living with the faces (and bodies) we were born with.

Like Melania did.

Because the worst thing a woman can do in Trump world is age. Thst makes her worthless to men. Because in Trump world, how a woman appears to men is how her value is based. And the way women naturally look is never good enough. Every time I see Trump's radically altered wife and daughter, I am reminded of this fact. Not exactly the most "empowering" message for women and girls.

a cheek implant. And that's just her face.

Her hair/extensions on the Merkel vid looks to be some weird hybrid of raggedy and greasy. Odious.

Then it hit me ...
