Bernie Sanders To Introduce Health Care Legislation That Will Put The GOP Plan To Shame

As Donald Trump and Republicans continue to push a politically suicidal plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, Bernie Sanders plans to give America a real health care plan by introducing Medicare for all legislation.

On MSNBC’s All In with Chris Hayes on Wednesday, the Vermont senator slammed the revised GOP plan as worse than the original and promised to bring a single-payer option to the floor of the Senate.

Sanders said:

He brought forth, along with Paul Ryan, a health care proposal which threw 24 million Americans off of health insurance, raised premiums for older workers, defunded Planned Parenthood, and cut Medicaid by 800 billion dollars and this proposal will likely be worse. Bottom line here, Chris: I’m going to introduce a Medicare for all, single-payer program. We’ve got to join the rest of the world and guarantee health care to all of our people as a right.

Not only is Sanders right that the Republican plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care is a disaster that will hurt millions of Americans, but he’s also putting forward a health care plan that the American people actually support.

As The Washington Post noted, recent polling shows that a majority of the country supports a plan to expand Medicare to cover all Americans. When it comes to the GOP plan to replace the Affordable Care Act, strong majorities of the country repeatedly expressed their opposition to it. Not only that, but voters said their representatives would face consequences at the ballot box if they voted in favor of it. On its own, Trumpcare is a disaster. Sanders’ brilliant move to put forward his own legislation that the American people actually like at the same time will put it to shame.

Gimme a break folks! Things are bad enough with that freak in the WH, we don't need bickering over who was the original author.

this is the thing I can't fucking understand. If we care so much about money, why do we continue to funnel so much of it to goddamned health insurance companies. That's money that OTHER businesses can't steal! Don't they want some more of it available for them to take? What is so fucking special about health insurance companies that the rest of the country thinks we need to pay them what amounts to a second health care plan's worth of money just so they can exist?

Fuck.

Make it comprehensive, and something that would be good to implement right away.

Single-payer is a good ultimate goal, but if we're going there let's include plans to employ those who would be left behind.
