(42,862 posts)Keep in mind... they were spared court and attorney's fees... they were also spared the humiliation and PR nightmare of having EVERYTHING rehashed in an open courtroom (including the altercation itself, AS WELL AS how they bumbled through, AS WELL AS their policies, AS WELL AS any thing else "discovered" that was related to this case.)
How much would United pay-out to avoid that?

(2,067 posts)that were more focused on getting a video recording of the incident that they could share on social media, than they were on trying to stop the incident from happening. What a sad statement on people's priorities today. Not saying the airline and airport police don't have the primary responsibility, but this was also probably 100% preventable if any of those folks, upon seeing what was happening to Mr. Dao, offered to give up their seats instead.
Our narcissistic culture, both those who want to be on camera as well as those who want to be the ones who get something on camera, is pathetic. You're not a hero because you got an atrocity on camera (especially because there's probably another hundred who got the exact same thing you did). You're a hero when you try to STOP an atrocity from happening in the first place.

(14,854 posts)I don't know why you think the passengers are responsible in any way. There's no way they could have known ahead of time what was going to happen to this man. Then when the bad shit happened, it really was too late to be offering to give up seats.
