The imaginary world of Republican government...

First of all, modern-day Republicans do not believe in government. They are different from their Republican brethren of the past. They have been anti-government for so long that they no longer know how to govern.

Their opinion of governing is to cut taxes, cut people programs, and build up the Defense Department. That is it.

For decades, they have been able to persuade their base that their ideas of governing will give them more "freedom and opportunity".

They fail every time. And they will fail this time also. They do not know how to govern.

They are very good at opposing Democrats and Democratic ideas of government. They simply block or obstruct. That has been their strategy for years.

The Trump Presidency will be one of the great disasters of our time. They will successfully tear down whatever "government" was still working and they will leave our country in worse condition than when Barack Obama took over for George W Bush.

The state of Minnesota has a budget surplus. Naturally, Democrats would like to be able to do things like fund schools and transportation, since the state can afford it. But not the Republicans: "Rep. Jim Knoblach, R-St. Cloud, the House GOP leader on the budget, said the tighter budget is a response to the state’s solid financial status. With low unemployment rates and economic growth, he said it makes sense to cut spending on economic development and other state programs." http://www.startribune.com/state-gop-leaders-line-up-behind-budget-plan/420790393/

That's their answer to everything: When there's no money, cut spending on programs. When there's lots of money, cut spending on programs.
