More pay as an incentive for going above and beyond. More pay as a reward for more sacrifice. Its difficult to see the problem with this concept on any level. Republicans and the President dont seem to agree, however.
The bills prospects in the senate are slim, thankfully. With the senates filibuster rules, at least a handful of Democrats would have to cross party lines for it to pass. That appears unlikely, given that not one Democrat in the House supported this disastrous legislation today.
Whether or not this measure makes its way to the Presidents desk for his signature, there can be no more illusions about Trumps or the GOPs supposed loyalty to the American worker. They may say all of the things they want to hear when the microphones are hot, but with their actions theyre telling workers loudly and clearly: We dont care about you.

(1,907 posts)They had something similar for salary personnel. (I.E. middle management) We would have large turn around projects. They would be assigned to them. They may be working 7 days a week and 12+ hours days. In return they got "comp" time. The problems what turned up was the company wouldn't give them a 1 hour worked for 1 hour comp. They may have 2-3-4 hour worked for 1 hour comp time. And they would put further restrictions on that. The comp time had to be used with in a certain time or it was lost. Using the comp time had to be approved by upper management. A lot of them lost comp days because of that. I could easily see a bill like that causing a lot of problems for workers beyond just the loss of the extra cash.

(10,437 posts)especially if the "time off" is not at 1.5x rate and there is no provision to FORCE the employer to give the workers the comp time. I have seen this scenario played out countless times and the workers ALWAYS got shafted

(5,580 posts)Overtime pay nets the govt a lot of tax money too. Anytime you get overtime most of that is deducted for taxes.
Seems to me that this would increase deficit spending not to mention further erode worker protections.
I am a loyal dog by nature. I no longer have employer loyalty. Figured out I was expendable many years ago.
To the republicans - we are all expendable.
