Woody Guthrie honored with special July 4 Google doodle

Check out the Google homepage today, and youll see that the search engine giant isnt just celebrating Americas Independence Day, its also honoring Oklahoma folk icon Woody Guthrie.
Todays Google doodle features a guitar and the words This Land Was Made For You And Me scripted in patriotic red, white and blue. Of course, those are the lyrics to Guthries most famous and enduring song, the inclusive anthem This Land Is Your Land.
Throughout 2012, the world is celebrating Woody Guthries legacy during his centennial year. The legendary singer-songwriter was born July 14, 1912, in Okemah.
He died of Huntingtons disease on Oct. 3, 1967, at the age of 55, but not before writing some 3,000 songs, along with essays, newspaper columns and his partially fictionalized autobiography Bound for Glory.

(5,714 posts)1. Woody Guthrie? Curious choice for Google.....
..considering that that song was originally written with a critical, anti-capitalist message.
