The Abortion Issue IS Black and White

I don't like this muddying of the waters by those acting as apologists for Catholics. You can be Catholic and not impose your beliefs on others. To be Catholic and a Democrat means that you, personally, would not have an abortion, but you would never tell another woman she is not allowed to have one. If you try to force your beliefs on someone else, you are not a Democrat. You are a religious fundamentalist zealot. Simple as that. So, NO, we don't need to bend the rules to fit these people in. NO, the Democratic party will not conform to your ideals. NO, we won't let you sneak in through the back door and divide us further.

But you don't get to choose the party's platform. This is what concerns me, taking a step to the right to gain some numbers.

as it once was....that it's fading as an issue.

about Pelosi for president?

I'm also tired of everyone bowing to the cult of personality. These are people, and people are flawed.

I grew up Catholic, and I have many family members who are against abortion. I couldn't help but notice the irony on Easter Sunday as they helped themselves to heaps of ham. A slaughtered pig is more emotionally complex and intelligent than an aborted fetus. Please. In my experience they adopt this position either out of repulsion about sex and women's sexual freedom, or out of fear of "sinning" and going to hell. It's bullshit. I became a vegetarian in protest of this position. It's NOT a "baby"!

I had a mother who was a Democrat activist - very liberal, very pro-union, pro-civil rights. I was so grateful to grow up in a household that treated children as free to make up their own minds, and that didn't treat adolescent women as a PROBLEM because they might become sexually active.

Then, in my teens, my mother became born again and adopted the anti-abortion stance. It destroyed her mentally. She became impossible to live with. The anti-abortion movement led her to think she was saving lives, and it took my mother from me. I raised myself and my little sister in my teen years, she was so mentally berserk. She was against nuclear weapons, war, and the death penalty, yet she hung out with these nasty people who signed on to every mean-spirited element in the Republican agenda. These people have NO compassion and certainly don't care about what Republicans are doing to god's creation, which ought to be a greater sin.

We need to stop condoning this delusion that abortion "destroys life".

People who actually believe the life of an unborn human "baby" is more worthy than the life of a pig.

And want others to share that belief.

Bullshit indeed.

And if the Democrats waffle on this issue, they'll lose a LOT of women.

Because, sorry guys. I get to own my own body. And you can shove your "big tent" up your ass if you think that right is up for debate.

for the sake of (maybe) gaining a few pro-life people. I think Pelosi has lived with pro-lifers long enough that she "understands" them. Her understanding them does not mean that all Democrats are going to embrace their ideology.
