...forcing victims into prohibitively expensive 'high-risk pools.'As Allure pointed out, "Unsurprisingly, many pre-existing conditions that would let insurers off the hook for covering people largely impact women," and some states allowed companies to treat domestic violence, sexual assault, and postpartum depression as preexisting until the Affordable Care Act (ACA) set standards. In the case of the freshly rehashed AHCA, one of several women-dominated fields put on the chopping block surrounds victims of sexual assault, whose often multifaceted care could become optional for insurers in states that would deem the effects of abuse preexisting, and subject them to that "$8 billion pool," rather than deal with them.
Mic also noted that, while postpartum depression, surviving domestic violence, and having had a C-section also made the list of cuts from preexistence-protection with the bill's newest version, the so-called MacArthur Meadows Amendment simultaneously asserts, "Nothing in this Act shall be construed as permitting health insurance issuers to discriminate in rates for health insurance coverage by gender or limit access to health coverage for individuals with pre-existing conditions."
Given that 91% of sexual assault victims are female, however, it seems likely that a disproportionate number of women could find themselves picking up the medical tab for their own rape--more than usual, that is.

So you tell me if a rapist is likely to rape a chick again if he knows she won't tell the cops because she'd lose her health insurance.

... I mean it's gotta be HER fault, right? She was probably asking for it anyway.
Let's just change our name to United States of Saudi Arabia and be done with it.

I'm trying to think like a GOP thug and wrap my mind around how any sort of assault can be a pre-existing condition, and I just can not do the mental gymnastics.
Men who are injured in robberies or other assaults will be subject to the same rules, right?
