They show a fundamental misunderstanding of what health insurance is, and what it's basic reason for existing is.
So, abolish health insurance altogether then. Is that the idea?

(3,447 posts)Of course, I'd suggest the government simply pay all doctor salaries, supplement schooling, and all the other fun stuff as a whole, at which point there is no need for insurance, but I'm relative sure they aren't interested in that approach.

(27,813 posts)Anyone who thinks their premium payments to an insurance company are not used to pay for someone else's healthcare needs is an imbecile.
It's no different than any other insurance. If you are accident-free this month, the premium you paid for your car insurance is used to pay for someone else's car accident. If you didn't have a home fire this month, your home insurance premium was used to compensate someone who DID have a fire.
This is beyond fundamental - it's common sense. If you put in an insurance claim to cover the expenses of your appendectomy, you are NOT just getting back the amount of the premiums you've paid in so far - you are getting paid from what's "in the pot" that has been contributed to by all of the people who DIDN'T need an appendectomy.
Jesus Hussein Christ. I realize that Republicans are far from the smartest people on the planet - but shouldn't plain old common sense enter into the picture at least once in a while?
