The “Nuns on The Bus” tour speaking out against the immoral Republican Ryan budget made its final stop in Washington, D.C. at the United Methodist Building Monday. The Catholic sisters say the Ryan budget harms struggling low-income people. They say it will raise taxes on 18 million hard-working low-income families, push the families of two million children into poverty, kick 8 million people off food stamps and 30 million off health care. Sister Simone Campbell says Catholic social teaching is to act in solidarity to serve the poor.

[Sister Simone Campbell]: “In our culture of individualism the role of Catholic social teaching is to counter that individualism with a keen knowledge of solidarity. Our solidarity is what will keep us from sliding into isolation, loneliness and depression. Because the only time we are fully human is when we’re connected to each other.”

The “Nuns On The Bus Tour” visited nine states stopping along the way at the offices of Catholic members of Congress and at various locations where the sisters serve the poor.
