That was merely the appetizer. Yates, in her calm and judicious way, proceeded to make the entrée Tailgunner Ted Cruz, who started out in his customary cloud of oily arrogance and ended up being sautéed by the nice lady with the backbone of steel.

Also love Charles M. Blow of the NY Times. I believe it was he who wrote, recently, that trump has all the depth of a coat of paint.

As for Ted Cruz, don't ever set up a drinking game based on this weird little debating device he uses for "holding your attention." He makes a statement or half a statement, or phrase of "utterance-of-consequence" and then he stops. Closes his lips. Just stares at you as if to drill home his profound "moment of silent punctuation" or some such rot. It's a device. It's a device that you can only use once or twice. But he uses it continuously, to the point where it looks artificial and contrived. Blah-blah-blah-blah-CLOSED Yap-yap-yap-yap-yappity-yap-CLOSED Bla-de-bla-de-bla-de-bla-de-bla-de-bladeblabla-CLOSED. And when that mouth clamps shut, he stares at you or his eyes dart around as though spot-checking the room to see if anybody's hanging on his dead-air moment.

When I was in radio, a sure-fire way to grab everyone's attention was to go stone cold silent for a moment. A sudden gap in the jabber-jabber. That would make people freeze cold-stop for a moment and turn to gape at the radio. You got their attention alright. I think that's part of what goes on in that little lizard brain of ol' Teddy-boy. Watch him for a minute or so (as long as you can stand to do it, anyway) and observe. You don't have to listen to what he's actually saying. Just note the shtick of it.

A different take on what my husband calls "more ME, please." Ted wants - and expects - and very much NEEDS - all eyes on him, all the time.

Man did she slap him silly with the facts and law! He thought he was asking her a gotcha question and she pointed out he was looking at the wrong section of the law, that he was ignoring the fact that the law still must be constitutional, i.e. not discriminate. He came off as a craven, stupid, political hack.

This is probably why the so called president would nominate him to be scotus. Look how dumb his cabinet picks are.

what goes around, comes around. He started his career in the senate treating long time senators with disdain and condescension. I've never seen anything like it. There is a reason why he is the most hated man in the senate.

He started off with a cold cite to the U.S. Code, I'm sure hoping to knock Yates off her stride. Nobody knows the Code like that. But by the time Cruz got done reading the text of the statute, Yates had time to regroup mentally and give Cruz a little lesson in the statute as amended, instead of as written. That's the difference between a practicing attorney and a poser.

Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to witness the takedown. Sally Yates, like my Senator DiFi, has more brains and class in her little finger than Slimy Ted could ever dream of.
