1. How does "cultural anxiety" differ from straight up racism?

3. Here are the details
Identification with the Republican Party. Identifying as Republican, not surprisingly, was strongly predictive of Trump support. White working-class voters who identified as Republican were 11 times more likely to support Trump than those who did not identify as Republican. No other demographic attribute was significant.
Fears about cultural displacement. White working-class voters who say they often feel like a stranger in their own land and who believe the U.S. needs protecting against foreign influence were 3.5 times more likely to favor Trump than those who did not share these concerns. Support for deporting immigrants living in the country illegally. White working-class voters who favored deporting immigrants living in the country illegally were 3.3 times more likely to express a preference for Trump than those who did not. Economic fatalism. White working-class voters who said that college education is a gamble were almost twice as likely to express a preference for Trump as those who said it was an important investment in the future. https://www.prri.org/research/white-working-class-attitudes-economy-trade-immigration-election-donald-trump/ |

7. In other words, white nationalism and xenophobia animate WWC'ers moreso than medical care
for their families.
Our country is screwed, bigly, as long as they vote in high numbers. |

12. So tying tRump to Russia and making clear how awful Putin is would be an effective approach to erode
his base. Presumably.
(those) who believe the U.S. needs protecting against foreign influence were 3.5 times more likely to favor Trump than those who did not share these concerns. |

6. And this is the tough part for us--we need to win back some bigoted, ignorant dumbfucks
to win in OH, WI, MI, PA, and IA.
When the very distillation of the essence of being a bigoted, ignorant dumbfuck is our political opponent. The best we can do is discourage as many WWC'ers from voting as possible. |

9. Women and POC saw the anger rise and get louder but so many told us to discount it- that these
People would be happy if we just took torches and pitchforks to the billionaires- and then they elected one.

13. Yep
Been screaming this for years. Republicans have known this since Nixon. They base their whole campaign and platform on it.

16. Noted and Filed Under "Well, Duh!"
The "bring back jobs" thing was a smokescreen to get the WH back into the hands of a white guy. There was never anything else to it, especially given the number of "it" voters here where everyone is well paid and either highly educated or reasonably educated but very skilled.
These aren't jobs being taken away by low wage immigrants. They just didn't like how "black" the White House had become. |
