I can not even imagine what it must be like to stay on the high ground with all the kool-aid-drinking individuals you folks deal with.
Thank you for all you do. Keep the faith.

(4,310 posts)very racist area of our country, I thank the wonderful
open minded kind Liberals that kept me sane. They were
able to show me the beautiful things to love and enjoy
about the area and helped me understand why it was home
and why they would never leave.
Regardless of our differences there were more than a couple
times they saved my ass when i had problems especially after
a flood. They knew I was one of those "crazy Libruls" but never
brought it up when emergency action was needed.

(5,214 posts)In a southern (true in every sense of the word) suburb of Columbus. I have lived in Lousiville, southern AL, south of Richmond VA for 10 years but the biggest 'horror' I have to endure is where my children live. My eldest daughter lives in Dothan AL, my son lives in Panama City Beach FL (South AL for those in the know) and my youngest lives in various places; lately Atlanta.
I try so hard to get them to move, including offering them all but free rent if they'll move up here as long as they go to school. But the clime is what they care about.
BTW, their mother is from the Philippines whereas I'm mostly German stock. This is all well and good but my children say they get pulled over by the locals fairly often. Racial profiling be damned.

Actually there are a lot of us in Texas--just not enough.
For that matter, I have been stationed in Europe for many years now, so when I go home, I hang out with people that think like I do.

(14,337 posts)at least you have Dems controlling the state. I'm from NY too (NYC/LI), but now living in a very red part of Fl with the insane Gov. Scott, Rubio, etc., in charge. I can certainly see the difference just since Crist was Governor. These Republican Governors are so right wing now. No wonder Crist changed parties, and Snowe retired.

(28,151 posts)In fact, with fascism on the rise here in MI, I can totally relate to the progressives stuck in red states.

(11,816 posts)I often get angry at "Texas" or "those idiots in the red states" but now that my own state of Pennsylavania has fallen into the hands of ALEC fascists, I understand how Dems in those states must feel.
Stay strong and keep up the good work, red state Dems!

(30,947 posts)but I have just learned to go with the flow and deal with it. All of our local governmental offices are held by Republicans and during elections there are no Democrats running, so I do not vote in the local elections.

And I read you and agree- still, it's up to us. Democracy is only real when it's a verb. (which it isn't...anyway you get me I hope)

(17,620 posts)you folks are doing the work! We have a different problem here...almost all the politicians run with a D but don't follow the platform or the values. We're working on that.
