As much as I hate to say it, Rubio, because he makes Florida easier to steal, especially with the same Cuban thugs that helped steal 2000.

Nobody would actually try to do that to us for real, would they?

You left him off. He's a safe, boring pick who's from a swing state. Unfortunately for Mitt, he won't carry Ohio.

6. Portman thinks he is going to be president someday

He even hints about it in his Facebook feed. He would carry Ohio as POTUS. "Cleveland's largest newspaper" and the Columbus Dispatch will gush all over having their fag hating wonderboy in the VP slot, though. I don't want to watch.

11. He'd definitely have a better chance of taking Ohio at the top of the ticket...

But as Romney's running-mate? He won't carry the state. I think Obama is close to having Ohio in the bag.

10. Here's a good NYT article about him. Found out why you are probably right

Mr. Portman can deliver a speech in Spanish. He learned the language while living on a ranch near the Rio Grande in Texas during a college break, working alongside illegal immigrants. The experience intrigued him enough that he used it to write his anthropology thesis at Dartmouth.

He recorded radio ads in Spanish during his Senate race and promoted his jobs plan to Hispanic voters. With a light accent and a trill of his R’s, he introduced himself by saying, “Soy Rob Portman, candidato para el Senado de los Estados Unidos.”

5. Who better to personify your campaign theme of ‘I think the black guy is up to no good' ?

In his final episode before the summer break, Bill Maher presents some of his suggestions for a Romney running meet to include the following:

“So Mitt, if you are serious about winning you have to think outside the box. what about – hear me out – Romney Zimmerman 2012? It’s unorthodox, but

9. Pawlenty has the national campaign and RNC management background, but he has said

he'd rather gouge out his eyes with a rusty spoon than be the VP.

Well, no, he didn't put it that way...but he did say he was not interested, that he could "serve in other ways" or something like that.

Then again, this could be a "misdirect" ploy--perhaps Pawlenty has already been picked, and they're just playing around because they want to time the announcement to 'own' the news cycle?

I think he's probably the best vetted of the lot.

Last time this question was asked, I picked Pawlenty. This time I am picking Rubio. Honest truth is I have no clue as to who the Mittwit might pick...!

12. none of the above

He will pick someone in lockstep with his ideas but someone who will not be able to upstage him.

Rubio seems to be his best bet but my guess is he wants someone he can easily control.

He is probably looking for someone less popular than himself. This means that he will probably not have finalized his decision until the last minute since there are so few possibilities that are less popular than he is.

14. You forgot Rob Portman
Thu Jul 5, 2012, 07:24 AM
Jul 2012

Romney needs somebody who won't steal the spotlight from him, and Christie, Jindal, and Rubio are all out based on that criterion. Even Pawlenty is more interesting than Mittens, but Portman is a total unknown in this country, and would make Mitt look like the interesting one of the pair.

Ohio is probably tougher for the GOP to win than Florida, and it's of vital importance to them.

If so, it definitely won't be Michelle B. Maybe someone like Kay Bailey Hutchinson or Kelly Ayotte? Rob Portman? It's not going to be Walker or Ryan I don't think. We'll soon find out.
