Al's Rules for 2020 Presidential Candidates
Al Giordano ✔ @AlGiordano
2. Ronald Reagan used to cite his commandment: "Thou shalt not speak ill of another Republican." Democrats could learn from that...
3. My own policy is going to be an amended version: "I will only speak ill of 2020 Democrats who speak ill of Democratic values & leaders.
4. So if you're a candidate who is going to drag on President Obama instead of embracing his legacy, I'm going to hit your hard & often.
5. Likewise, if you're going to pander to the "Hillary Clinton was a terrible candidate" ...., I hope you can take it as hard as you dish it
6. But if you're out there talking about issues & strategy & tactics & how to get change, I'm not going to speak ill of you. And I expect...
7. ...that my mentions on social media be free of such internecine food fights. I will block people for dragging on any potential nominee...
8. ...except to counter any candidate who himself is dragging on other potential nominees (I'm especially talking to you,...).
9. If you're going to seek the Democratic Party nomination, you have a *duty* to leave that nomination in better condition than you found it
10. If in your ambition & selfishness you weaken the value of that nomination (& eventual nominee), then fuck you, it's going to be war.
11. We're all paying the steep price of those kinds of antics today, and we'll be paying them at least through January 20, 2021.
12. The Democratic nomination comes through millions of people who are very diverse but embrace one label: Democrat. Grok that!
13. We will defend closed primaries in states that choose them & will not broke any asshole trying to drag the legitimacy of their results.
14. We will sabotage any aspiring nominee who panders to non-Democrats by running against the DNC & lowering its value. We will destroy you.
15. Yes, we all have things we want the Democratic Party to do better. And we fight for them the effective way, within the family, not media
16. We will neither tolerate attempts to abandon the pieces of our coalition in favor of a re-centering of white and/or male voters.
17. If you're one of those people using those bottom-feeding tactics, & you think we hit you hard in 2016, you ain't seen nothing yet.
18. This time we'll be more ready to isolate, contain & marginalize you for trying to weaken the value of our vehicle to win in November.
19. If you want the nomination, you had better be adding to its value - no matter who the eventual nominee - every day of your campaign.
20. If you try to win by parasite tactics that suck away its value, you forfeit any right to that nomination. And you will lose. Badly.
21. Those are my rules from here to 2020: Thou shalt not speak ill of any Democratic presidential candidate who does not speak ill of others
22. But that rule has a rider attached: If you speak ill of the party or any of its potential nominees, the gloves come off. End memo.

(1,214 posts)It all began with a bracketed competition to determine the winner of Twitters Shit Account Tourney 2016. The competition is divided into brackets; Twitter users are asked to vote on each contest for which is the worse account. Giordano faced off against Center for American Progress President and CEO and welfare reform implementer Neera Tanden.
Tanden won by eight percentage points.
...After his loss, Giordano launched into a tweetstorm, saying, in part, These 4,673 accounts [behind the voting] likely represent fewer than 2,000 actual persons. I hope [twitter support] will study their abuses & act on them. This is the core group of Alt-left, Bernie Bro, dirtbag left, Intercept, Jacobin, Bruenig boys, whatever name they go by the dozen or so ringleaders have first names, last names, addresses, jobs. I have a lot of that info (and feel free to email me more).

I dream of Democratic candidates and supporters that don't keep enemy lists like Dick Nixon.

Not sure whether he still resides in Mexico.

(1 post)The anonymous "ThatGuy888" posted that smear job that, when published, nobody paid it much notice because it was clearly bullshit then as now. I am Al Giordano. I told the inept and knowingly dishonests "reporter" Eion Higgins that I had no "enemies list," that he was twisting my words out of context, back in December of last year when he contacted me for the story. He did so as part of the very same cohort that had engaged in systematic harassment of me and others, something his "article" simply continued.
In the piece - and later via his Twitter account - he took harassment by others against me (the setting up of fake porn accounts and such) and taunted me with them (this, as I was about to begin three months of radiation and chemotherapy treatments for cancer, something I informed him at the time, and that he hid from readers of his article) including with infantile name calling. All of that can be seen on his Twitter account in the days after the December 6 publication of the story. He also falsely claimed I had told him the story was fine. When I called him out on that he then claimed that my silence was his proof that I "said" it was fine. That's what a lowlife we have in this guy. So, hey, there are sleaze peddlers in the media! Nothing new, there. I wonder if "ThatGuy888" is in fact Mr. Higgins because nobody else cared to link to his piece anywhere when it came out. That's how embarrassingly non-journalistic it obviously was.
Here we are, six months later, I haven't engaged in any of the behaviors that he falsely accused I would engage in, and that is the proof that this smear piece was false. I think if "ThatGuy888" has an honest bone in his body he'll delete his fake news comment above, and if so, I'll be happy to do the same. Thank you very much. - Al

Your "rules" and other writing seems to violate the spirit of not re-fighting the 2016 primary.
Good luck with your cancer treatment, my mom beat it, with luck you will too. As far as the rest, show - don't tell. It is more effective.
Nope, wrong again. Feel free to put me on ignore, I don't think we have much to say to each other.

I want to say Mahalo to you for all you do for our Democracy. I read your blogs during the Obama years.. the links would show up on the Obama Diary... and now the Twitter era during Hillary's campaigns and beyond.
Sorry it has to be under such vile circumstances with some random attempt to smear you on DU.
My Very Best Wishes and Aloha for a return to Good Health.
