the individual mandate as a conservative idea

in 1993 the senate GOP introduced the Health Equity and Access Reform Today Act of 1993 with 20 cosponsers including current senate members orrin hatch and chuck grassley. the bill never made it to the floor since the dems controlled the senate and where trying to pass a public option.

in 1994 the senate Gop tried the consumer choice security act of with 24 GOP cosponers (all GOP and 1/2 of teh GOP senate membership at the time) including cons like strom thurmond,ted stevens,jessie helms,kay hutchinson,trent lott and others. it didnt advance for the same reason
