Storm after storm! Trees falling, thunder and lightning, power off for a week in 100 degree weather. What next raining frogs and snowing duck feathers?
I voted for Obama and all I had was a few sticks and leaves so far(knock on wood)
We just had another storm this AM with about 60 MPH wind. It has to be a curse of some kind and I think it's because this state is slam full of dip-shits!

(3,682 posts)I have liberal friends who lost family members in the bad storms that ripped through Kentucky earlier this year. Similarly, I know many lovely people fighting for good things in West Virginia, and seeing their state suffer for any reason is painful for them. I understand you're only joking, but you're talking about the lives and suffering of real people. Whether they agree with you politically is irrelevant--even drawing out the "they bring it on themselves by voting their own interests" card. Many are poor, undereducated, and fed propaganda from every social institution they know. They don't deserve to be laughed at when they're down.

(37,726 posts)I was joking. Around here we figure it's better to laugh than to cry, when things get tough or crazy. You're right about the steady diet of fiends of coal type, republican and semi-republican, misinformation pumped at these folks here from every angle. I don't laugh at them, I laugh with them. What the republican party has done to the people here and all over this country, is no laughing matter though. I do admit that I get a little charge out of making fun of assholes like Brother Fat Pat Robertson and his partners in slime. Self serving the lord 24/7 on the cable channels I have to pay extra for, to get ESPN, on the you should have kept your antenna package.

I just get exhausted with the bashing of the South and other areas that are populated by mainly uneducated and unfortunately often politically right-wing people, and I get amazed at the ability to ignore history, context and the impact of class on people's worldviews...so I felt the need to make the statement, not necessarily to you, but to a wider audience, that you shouldn't dismiss anybody's humanity, ever.

I had to come up out of the bunker to reprimer all the old cars and trucks up on blocks in my front yard, re-sight my TV dish that never did get hooked up and get a couple of quarts of cold packed possum out of the root cellar, for supper.
Climate change is turning my state into Gilligan's Island without all the teeth.
Thanks for doing your part to marginalize our state as a bunch of ignorant hicks.
For someone with such a low opinion of our state, it's odd that you choose to live here.
Sorry if I'm coming across as catty, but I'm tired of all the insulting stereotypes directed at West Virginia.
It's an incredibly diverse state that deserves better than to have a reputation engineered by hateful comments based of the lowest common denominator.
