Telling us all how ungrateful we are....
And in that one moment we will be forever grateful that the dumbass ruskie plant is out of the office.

(60,010 posts)He lied about not knowing Flynn was dirty until Flynn supposedly admitted it to him.
He recently has been saying that he had heard Comey telling Trump he wasnt under investigation.
Comey is surely going to be asked about that when he testifies at a pending hearing.

(7,520 posts)"But I'm too American for America. People got sick of being so American. They said I was the best American. Bigly. They're like 'Hey Donald, can you stop being so American for once,' and I said 'of course not, because no one loves America more than me'. There is no one more American than me, and anyone who says I'm not is in league with the Russians. The failing Democrats worship Putin so much. They're not as American as I am."

(31,464 posts)He's insane. If -- IF -- he resigns, it will be with a grandiose rationale about how superior he is, but no one would listen to him. He wants to resign, I don't doubt that. But he needs a reason that will cover his massive ass.

(10,122 posts)they can snag him on criminal stuff. He can haggle a deal if he's still in office.
If he's returned to the private sector, his parachute is gone and he plummets into jail or into a longer jail sentence.
So it's a delicate situation. If he tried to cop a deal, he's telling them to keep going because he's guilty.
There were a lot of people angry Nixon did not go to jail. And the GOP paid for it in the election that followed.

(10,122 posts)Back in Eisenhower/Kennedy years, the president was revered more. Kind of like royalty. Johnson lost some of the shine with the Vietnam war and the television media changing how we viewed the President. But Nixon really sullied the role and it's never recovered.
But there seemed to be a bunch of folks who could not fathom putting the President in jail back then, in spite of what Nixon had done. There was some messed up thinking about healing the country from the ordeal. So he got pardoned.
After the nasty stuff we've seen against Bill Clinton, Bush II and Obama, things have changed. Just look at Trump's chants of "Lock her up!" Aside from Karma, I do not think the public would have as much problem with putting a President in jail today as they did in the 1970s.
That too might lengthen Trump's resolve to use his power as long as he can to stay out of jail. The problem with Trump is that he appears to rack up more crimes while he does so if this week is an example of things to come.
This is more nuts than Watergate ever was - probably at least in part because the guy at the helm is more nuts than Nixon was.

(3,781 posts)Every few years, whenever he would have a new book to sell or whatever, he'd make rumblings about running for President, and his sales would climb. This time, he tried it and I believe he was genuinely shocked that he was leading the field. After a while, it got to the point where he thought he could actually win, and he started envisioning all the things he could do as President to game the system to make himself even MORE money. And we've seen him do a lot of those things.
However, I think he realizes that if he resigns now and tries to go back to the private sector, he'll be seen as resigning in disgrace, and his "brand" will be worthless. The only way he can pull this out of the fire is to allow himself to get impeached, then start touring the country railing against the media, start a PAC, maybe write a book, and play up the whole, "Poor, poor me; I'm just a victim" angle. Then he'll pivot all his businesses into entities that "fight the corrupt media," and rather than hock whatever crap he got rich selling before, he'll just fleece his clueless followers into handing him their money directly as donations to fight whatever he tells them is "the enemy" at that particular moment.
Plus, I believe he's sociopathic enough to believe that nobody is smart enough to bring him down. Remember, he's, like, a very smart guy, and he has all the best words.

(10,122 posts)that they'll find that the only reason or a very key reason the Trump empire survived is that the Russians bailed him out.
I agree that when the Trump brand goes, so will his financial empire that is probably leveraged like a house of cards.
More than his ego is invested in this.

(6,485 posts)Putin has him by the balls. He's not allowed to resign. That may be why he tries so desperately to get impeached--getting out of there has to appear to Putin to be beyond his control.

(901 posts)1) He resigns when the pressure mounts and his paranoia finally supersedes his arrogance.
2) His brain completely caves so that he becomes a fully babbling idiot.
3) He hangs on due to the GOP's continued cover until the next election, but the Dems win the House and impeach him. The voters are growing increasingly furious with tRump and the GOP, especially after the ridiculous "healthcare plan" that really is a tax cut for the wealthy and because of sheer weariness of this incompetent, scandal-ridden administration. Of course, Pence will pardon him.

If he goes, I think they will make up some health reason. (Even though he's the healthiest president to ever hold office!)
Pence is dirty too. He has an email problem in Indiana and is linked with Flynn.

(37,748 posts)Depending on what county they're in (European bookies have higher odds, US bookies, lower), bookies have him at between 25-60% to not finish his first term out.
In Britain yesterday, a huge 100,000 pound bet on Trump leaving before the end of his first term shifted the odds from 15/8 to 11/10. Just after Comey's firing, upwards of 60% of all EU bets have been on him leaving in 2017 at 2/1.
So whether through resignation, impeachment or he simply strokes out after one too many Big Macs while yelling at some news broadcast, I'm beginning to regain some hope.
