"True People Search" Website posts home addresses, email, and cell numbers. Here's how to opt out.

Truepeoplesearch.com is giving out your personal information.

"It's a little creepy that they can get my current address and all of my previous addresses. I don't love it," Katie Smith said.

Smith had no idea her personal information was listed on truepeoplesearch.com.

"I've never heard of that," Smith said.

It's horrible. Some states publish all your real estate transactions, voting records, etc., etc. RKP5637 May 2017 #6
The above are public records. Voting records are secret; you must mean Party registration info. WinkyDink May 2017 #18
Yep, I meant Party registration info. Thanks! n/t RKP5637 May 2017 #19

And rather than relying on 'opt out' it's better not to have that info in the wild and linked to you.

They even publish some places I've rented to people. Incredible.

Opt out of this site and another one like Spokeo will pop up- You no longer have control over your privacy on the Internet.

There were names on that list of people I haven't spoken with in twenty years !
Addresses I have long forgot. Phone numbers and emails I have long forgot.
I removed myself. Thank you for scaring the shit out of me.

I have a common name (common enough that it's hard to google me) and there I was. Some of the details were wrong about who I'm related to, but enough was right that it was pretty disturbing. And I have almost no social media presence at all!

Spokeo- They have a detailed search that users pay to get the same information. https://www.spokeo.com/ - I'm not sure if you can opt out of that site, or not.

affiliations, previous places of residence, "people associated with," Google images of your current home (map/satellite/street view), etc.

I have appreciated this info, as I sometimes need addresses for mail.

P.S. I'll bet you will NOT get "White Pages" scrubbed.

P.P.S. Mentioned in a relative's obituary? There's your name (maiden/married/spouse), usually your current place of residence, and all of that for any siblings.

THEN it's a hop-skip to LinkedIn, Facebook, Google Images, any Letter to the Editor you've written, ANY newspaper article you were ever mentioned in, including school sports, ....

Frankly, the barn door of "Smile! You're on Candid Internet!" has been wide open for decades.
