After dog dies in his hot car, owner smiles in booking mug
Bill Omer (Galveston PD)
A smiling Houston man facing cruelty charges after his pet dog died in Galveston on July 4 when he left it in a sweltering vehicle, Galveston Police say posed shirtless in his booking mug, giving the thumbs-up sign.
Bill Omer, 23, a student, has been charged with cruelty to a non-livestock animal, and was released from custody after posting $15,000 bail, said GPD Lt. Michael Gray.
Omer faces up to two years in prison and a $10,000 fine if found guilty of the felony offense.

(53,661 posts)The Facebook page of him in his suit and vest has been disabled, or so it seems. Would love to know what college he's attending to see if they laugh it up right along with him.

(55,004 posts)there are two pix in that article and no way do they look like they were taken at the same time
the other photo looks way more like a booking photo to me but even that one isn't really identified other than the Galveston PD mark but either could just be something they gathered as evidence from anywhere.
I can understand the urge to wish violence on somebody smiling and showing no remorse over possibly their own negligence in the death of their pet, but I don't buy the headline.
Smells like to me.
edit to add the other photo

(3,539 posts)No what this fool did is wrong, just plain wrong.
What bothers me is that he appears to be getting rougher treatment than Zimmerman.
For the first, what, two months, Zimmerman didn't even need bail.
Zimmerman killed a human.

(53,661 posts)And there is no defense for locking any living being in a death trap. People have also been sent to prison on Texas for animal neglect and abuse.
It doesn't stop people doing that and a lot of other cruel and crazy things, but the standard is there.
Zimmerman didn't commit animal abuse.

(3,539 posts)And Zimmerman flat out killed one of those human type animals.
Now let be clear about something here.
Anyone so foolish or so cruel as to lock any living being in a death trap deserves anything that might happen to them.
For the first two months or so Zimmerman got off scott free. Even now he is being treated less severely than that Ahole that locked the dog in the car.
