Democrats need to win over the Trump voter?

I see and hear a lot of talk about how the Democrats need to win over the Trump voter. "Because the are hard working honest decent Americans who are just worried and scared."

I say bullshit. They are deplorables who don't give a shit about this country or anyone else. They aren't going to vote for a Democrat so there is no use in trying. Dems don't need to concentrate on these people, they need to concentrate on all the people who didn't bother to show up and vote in 2016, 2014 and 2010. These are the democratic voters who aren't motivated enough to vote.

After the 2008 election when the Republicans were the minority and seemed destined to be that way for a long time. Did they reach out to the Obama voter? No, they went further to the right and got more batshit crazy. And it paid off for them in 3 of the last 4 elections.

But as long as the Left and Democrats (not necessarily the same groups) are not united in order to defeat the Right and Republicans, we will continue to lose election after election after election.

Unlike the Left and Democrats, the Right fall in line with Republicans and unify against us.

We have the numbers to beat them, but we aren't unified. The Left demands Democrats do as they say or they'll stay home and make waffles on election day, and Democrats can't abandon their center-left or they'll lose their base (i.e. PoC who aren't as left as the Left would like them to be).

Either we unite on our side, stop this wishful thinking of a Left Utopia, and GOTV for Democrats, or the country will ultimately have to look to Republican voters to help us OUT of the minority that a unified Republican Party have shoved us into.

Useless. Don't even try.

Clinton won by more than 3 million popular votes. That says a lot. Engage all of those people, their relatives and friends.

And I will never understand why we don't have just as robust an effort to combat their cheating as we do to register new voters.

And don't get me started on the people trying to switch white voters who went with trump out of "cultural anxiety". That's nothing but the latest euphemism for racism. Fuck them.

And honestly they got to know they can't soft pedal their commitment to social justice to do it. As it is its 70/30 women to men- and that maybe part of the problem.

The voters we need to win over are the ones who don't bother to vote, some of them not even registered.

We need to try to convince them to get off that couch, register, and vote.

That will be a tall order for people who think if they register, they'll immediately be called for jury duty. It will also be a tall order for people whose faith in the system has been destroyed by 4 decades of Republican cheating.

But we have to try.

Reaching out for Asshole's voters? Aw, forget it. Most of them are simply unreachable.

Counties in Texas ( Collin county, includes Plano ), and I can tell you it is useless to try to change their minds. Not going to happen ever. Also, I know quite a cross section of people. It was not the lower income people that voted for trump. It was the more financially secure the voted for him. The lower income people I know voted for Hillary.

12. I don't think there is a "Trump Voter"
Sat May 13, 2017, 11:59 PM

There are people that voted for Trump. Some are delusional, some are stupid, a few are probably regretful (maybe). I think we should have a strong, consistent, principled message about restoring (or in some cases creating for the first time) basic fairness to the lives of ordinary people. If that happens to appeal to some of the people that voted for Trump, great. All the better. If not, that's on them.

13. No, they need to convince the Trump Base to turn on their "Bandit King"
Sun May 14, 2017, 12:21 AM

Here is how you turn the Base.

First, understand that self styled outlaws hate to admit that they have made a mistake. They make all their decisions "from the heart." And the heart can't lie, correct? So you never, ever tell them that they were fooled or tricked or conned. That makes them "chumps".

Instead of vilifying Trump, you vilify his advisers. Poor Base! Trump was seduced by the Dark Side. If you're a NeoNazi, he was seduced by his Jewish son in law. If you are not a NeoNazi, he was seduced by Bannon. If you are a veteran, he was seduced/blackmailed by Russia. In this equation, Trump is not bad. Trump is weak. And the Base will excuse badness in its chosen Bandit King faster than it will excuse weakness.

"Trump is not in control."

"Trump is weak."

"Trump is vulnerable."

"Trump is scared."

"Trump is desperate."

"Trump is a snitch who sold out his partners in crime to protect himself."

"Trump bombed Syria because he was afraid of the condemnation of the world."

"Trump played a nasty prank on a kid on Easter, because he is too afraid to confront someone his own size."

Trump is holding a baby up in front of him to protect himself from a gunman.

That is how you frame the narrative if you want to turn the Base. And once turned, they will go back to their Lazy Boy recliners and sulk rather than getting out to vote in the midterms.

not only do those voters not get to turn out, many more are discouraged.
that we, as a party, are not standing up for their franchise is a pretty powerful message.

very glad to see eric holder choosing to tackle this outrage. it will bring us a lot of voters.

never forget that 100 times the margin were left on the table in november.
