(7,566 posts)I am so tired of DUers slamming down each other. This used to be a place of haven for me, where I came for the latest news, but recently it has become a haven of discontent.

(115,276 posts)" 4) Sealed Indictment. The magistrate judge to whom an indictment is returned may direct that the indictment be kept secret until the defendant is in custody or has been released pending trial. The clerk must then seal the indictment, and no person may disclose the indictment's existence except as necessary to issue or execute a warrant or summons." (115,276 posts)because if an indictment is issued, the subject would of course be prosecuted in a public trial.

(9,670 posts)Right now.
No one is supposed to know about it. That's the nature of a sealed indictment. But someone has leaked. Someone wants us to know that there is a sealed indictment against Trump in existence. Right now.
This is supposed to create a groundswell of interest in the matter. The hope is that the Republican Party take note and begin to consider impeachment proceedings sooner rather than later. Maybe let the American people start asking questions and making demands.
And if that falls on deaf GOP ears, the indictment would be unsealed, and the GOP takes a major hit to its brand. It would almost be forced at that point to impeach.
Then again, I'm just a guy typing in a little white box.

(448 posts)It might be helpful just to read a little about the basics of how indictments work. https://legaldictionary.net/indictment/
Since is the first step in the process, there is still a need for the House to pass an article of impeachment, Senate to conduct a trial based on the charges.
If the House refuses to pass or even introduce an article of impeachment, that indictment may have to sit until it can move forward from that point.
