When Will the GOP Finally Wake Up to President Trump? - Toure'

Republicans see no emerging autocrat, no flailing nincompoop, no not-really-conservative Republican In Name Only who doesn’t care about ideas. They see a tough guy.

TOURÉ

I really don’t know what they see in him. It's like they're watching an entirely different guy. Republicans on Capitol Hill and in the streets continue supporting President Donald Trump—his approval among Republicans remains in the mid 80s—even as his presidency rambles through its first months like a runaway tractor trailer that’s loose on the highway with no brakes.

What is it that Republicans are getting that makes them still so happy with Trump? He’s failing to truly advance on any significant promise (see health care, tax reform, the Wall, the ban, etc.) and the specter of scandal via former FBI director James Comey and potential Russian collusion will live, rent-free, in a cloud parked over the White House for the rest of his days in the Oval.

This is an ineffective, unmoored, scandal-plagued White House and we're not even six months in. Either this administration fails to see how valuable it would be to have the Russia allegations investigated and laid to rest or they’re guilty and afraid of being discovered.

So either they’re blind and incompetent or they colluded with a hostile world power. Maybe both. Great. I struggle to think of anything that’s going right in this White House. So how is it more than a third of the country is very happy?

Most Republicans think the Comey situation is fine and don't see it as a troubling attempt to try to stop an investigation into whether the current president worked with Russia to get himself elected.

...only when it clearly costs them power and money - until then, he can continue destroying the country.

he asks "what are they getting", they're getting power and their guy in the WH. No more Obama all that stuff. They will abandon him when its clear he's hurting their chances of remaining in power in Congress. Until that point he will be able to do anything and they will stand behind him.

They own him because they can impeach him.

Having significant control over the most powerful man in the world doesn't come along every day.

They'll toy with Trump like a cat plays with a dead mouse. When they're done playing, they'll eat him.

Except they can't really control him. Nobody can. That means they own everything he does. The Republicans deserve every bit of backlash they will be hit with, over every crazy and dangerous thing he does to this nation.

Impeaching a Republican president will do massive damage to the GOP brand, no matter how they try and spin it. They know that.

Trump is simply an obnoxious bully.
And the fact that Republicans can't tell the difference speaks volumes about how pathetically stupid, self-centered and devoid of true values they are.

Tough guy: an obnoxious bully who's very quick to trample on the helpless and defenseless, but cowers in the face of people of equal or greater perceived power, regardless of legitimacy.

In my state we have toomey who is scared of his own shadow, and then in my district were represented by a real loser lou barletta who I think would follow hair fuehrer into the bunker it is the beginning of the end of his last days as president I hope. And it is not the Russian army closing in it is the FBI , It shows these fascist repugs in there true colors. The wheels have came off the clown bus along time ago yet there still on the bus trying to get us back to the good old days of the pre fdr social programs.

All they long to do is steal, strip and destroy Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, veterans health benefits, meals on wheels, food assistance, kill the EPA and all environmental laws, public education in favor of for-profit schooling, huge increases for the worlds biggest MIC, 100's of billions for a useless wall...etc.

You think they really care if Dump is their leader? Actually the POS provides them cover as they set about the task of dismantling what little safety net we have in this country so they can give the proceeds to the rich and the corporations that actually run this capitalist hellscape, Trump's Amerikkka.

The senate is working on that very thing now. I think people will be shocked at the bill that's coming out of the senate to Duh Furor's desk that I assume will decimate Medicare and also throw 24 million plus people to the wolves.

Elections have consequences....
