"Anybody that was exposed, we encourage them to seek medical attention immediately," a California public health official stated.
On May 5, more than 50 farmworkers outside of Bakersfield, California, were exposed to a highly toxic pesticide that apparently drifted from a nearby fieldat a high enough level that "twelve people reported symptoms of vomiting [and] nausea and one person fainted," reports the television news station Kern Golden Empire. "An additional twelve workers did not show signs of any symptoms," the station reported. "However more than half of the farm workers left before medical aide arrived."
Public health authorities took the poisoning quite seriously. "Anybody that was exposed, that was here today, we encourage them to seek medical attention immediately. Don't wait. Particularly if you're suffering from any symptoms. Whether it's nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, seek medical attention immediately," Michelle Corson, public relations officer at Kern County Public Health, said in an announcement to the TV station.

(62,444 posts)1. Why wasn't it banned in the first place?
"Many public health experts, scientists, and environmentalists have for years been pushing for a ban on chlorpyrifos, and last year it was looking like the Environmental Protection Agency intended to instate one."

(38,360 posts)3. Did you bother to read the article?
The EPA intended to ban the chemical until Trump took over.
Too much man. Wow.

(62,444 posts)6. Yes, I did read the article
The "intended to" links to a blank page. Or did you not bother to follow the links in the article?
So they "intended to". Why didn't they? Had it been safe for the previous eight years?

(38,360 posts)8. So Trump is completely blameless?

(62,444 posts)9. I don't see how you could reach that conclusion for what I wrote
You asked me if I had read the article, which states the EPA "intended to" ban it last year, but... what? Forgot? Lost track? Didn't get around to it?
The chemical wasn't banned before, and it isn't banned now. In that respect, what has changed?
Yeah, I agree, good luck getting any actual science out of the EPA now, but this particular chemical was not acted upon in all the years that complaints have been made.

(38,360 posts)10. Trump greenlighted it. Fact.

(62,444 posts)11. Yes, in other words, didn't change the status quo
"Greenlighted" makes it seem as if it has been newly approved.
This shit has been harming people for years. The EPA has not taken action on it for years.
