Bossert, assistant to the president for homeland security and counterterrorism, placed calls to the directors of the CIA and the NSA, the services most directly involved in the intelligence-sharing arrangement with the partner.

The article doesn't say when WaPo was told about it. Given the nature of the report, I bet they took several days to confirm the report.

I wonder if the staff even said anything to Trump about his serious error in judgment before they were contacted by WaPo.
