Good news at the SSA office: No pic of DRUMPF!1

For starters, I wish there were *NO* pictures of his a-hole face here at DU on threads that mention him, besides that on all websites they find it necessary to post a picture of his a-hole face on every one of the items - I counted 13 pics of his a-hole face on the front page of Politico one time and it's the same everywhere. His a-hole face doesn't add a single thing to whatever the content is and it's not like we have forgotten what his a-hole face looks like!1

Anyway, there is some actual public service information here for anybody who hasn't dealt with SSA for awhile.

I hadn't been there in years, back since I was complaining about Shrub's Mad magazine face on the wall. And sometime back then I opened a MyAccount, which I've never used in all those years.

So early this month an e-mail from the website said that beginning in June they will be enhancing the security by a two-step verification via e-mail or phone # and that we should update those items. Fine. So I logged in after all these years, or actually, *tried* to but couldn't find the password and had to request a change of pw. Did it, logged in, and was surprised to find my old land line, which I updated. Finito, and down the memory hole with all that.

Imagine paranoid surprise when a letter arrived from SSA - or *was* it?!1 - saying I had changed my address and they were mailing this to my *old* address to be sure I was the real person who had made the change. And the letter was dated THREE DAYS in advance of when the letter arrived - SCARY!1

So I called the 800 # and got a call-back scheduled for 45 minutes later (their time, not my choice). The Representative sounded bored to the bone and dismissed the issue, saying about the "two-step verification" - "We did away with that." Cue the paranoia music. So I said I vaguely remembered changing the phone # but that was the only change. She grudgingly looked up the phone information and said it's the phone I've got now so buh-bye.

The next day I told my even more elderly sister and a friend and both of them were even more paranoid than I am and said it all sounded fishy and I should go to the office not do it by phone.

By today the paranoia was fading away and I was sure I would be wasting an hour or two. Well, the total was an hour and a half. But the first pleasant surprise was that the entire building inside had been completely revamped, starting with an e-booth Sign-in instead of "taking a number" and ending with about fifty windows with gigantic numbering, broken into three wide corridors, plus some really comfortable sturdy seats.

But the BEST pleasant surprise was that there was *NO* picture of DRUMPF on any wall I could see!1

Still, there were hundreds of people and it took all that time, besides that they call you by number the first time to find out what you want and then you sit and wait some more until they call you by name. Plus there is a giant screen near the front ceiling showing what numbers are being attended presently, and the public address is constantly calling out numbers and names to go to whatever window. And then whole groups of people started arriving (from "centers"?) in groups together and filing in to sign in at the front.

So I showed the Window person the e-mails and the letter and she looked up my changes and confirmed that what I had changed was only the phone #. I said, "So any change we make generates a letter calling it a Change of Address?" She finally smiled. All of the staff don't smile.

But best of all, there was *NO* portrait of DRUMPF anywhere.

This formerly homeless Vietnam vet who in Campaign '04 told me that he didn't care about politics, had never voted, but that he liked Shrub. So in the years since we've fairly much stayed off talking politics, but recently he said the same thing as you, that he had never had this kind of revulsion (not his word) for any other president.

And my elderly sister, going on close to 80, said today that this mo'fo (not her word) gives her anxiety and bad dreams.

Not to mention me with the same reactions, can't stand to hear his voice or see his face.

huge picture of the president on the wall. So far, none of Trump. It makes me smile to see that blank space but I do miss seeing President Obama.
