Have any of your relatives played the Jesus card on you?

My nephew did to me on Facebook this afternoon:

He: Just as the bible and Jesus is for real, and we must live like Jesus did, trust me I pray for people like u daily

Me: Let's see... you voted for an admitted sexual molester, who has cheated so many people that he had to repay $25 million, who mocks people for their disabilities, who criticizes people for the race to which they were born, who lies about major things on a constant basis, who just put our intelligence agents in mortal danger, who just spat on our American allies, who runs our government as his own business to make profits, and you're going to pretend to be doing what Jesus wants? Get out of here. If there is a Jesus he's not very happy with you, trust ME.

He: I did and proud of it

Me: Which makes you a dishonest and unholy crackpot. You're saying the wrong prayers... you should be praying for YOURSELF.

He: What I proud of is that his values were far better than Hillary's anti Christian ones, he was and is not perfect as I but prayers were answered that more people feel like me because he is our president just as Obama was, so I still pray u see the truth

Me: Here's the TRUTH: No, his values were and are NOT far better than Hillary's. Hillary cares for people, Trump cares for himself. Hillary is not a racist, Trump is. Hillary doesn't mock people because of their disabilities. Trump does. Hillary doesn't sexually molest people then brag about it. Trump does. Hillary doesn't constantly lie. Trump does. Hillary doesn't cheat small businessmen and contractors. Trump built a career around it. Why don't you admit the TRUE reason you voted for Trump? I know what that reason is, but it might do you some good psychologically to admit it to yourself. And, SERIOUSLY, if you actually believe in some God of justice you should drop to your knees right now and pray for forgiveness.

He: What's worse in things done in deceiving way, Hillary and Bill went to o
Pedifile island and molested kids. And why as soon as she's not president her foundation fails, (because no more pay for play) wake up

Me: one of the Ten Commandments STRICTLY forbids you from bearing false witness against another person. You should be ashamed of yourself and you should take my advice seriously. If your God is real you have placed yourself in very grave danger of eternal damnation.

He: I'm not breaking a commandment, I'm passing on information just as u are, u need help I'm done with your disrespectful talk of our president, and I will continue to pray for lost souls like u

He was always saying he very much doesn't like trump for lots of reasons. He voted for Hillary and was not wavering. But, he has always said trump is better for Israel than Obama was. I sent him a little email today.

And then they pretend it's a religious stance, even though it's entirely incoherent.

12. Family is infested with "True Believers"..

From Part 3, section 54 of The True Believer, by Eric Hofer, 1951:

"The readiness for self-sacrifice is contingent on an imperviousness to the realities of life. ...For self-sacrifice is an unreasonable act. ...All active mass movements strive, therefore, to interpose a fact-proof screen between the faithful and the realities of the world. ...by claiming that the ultimate and absolute truth is already embodied in their doctrine and that there is no truth nor certitude outside it. ...To rely on the evidence of senses and of reason is heresy and treason. It is startling to realize how much unbelief is necessary to make belief possible. What we know as blind faith is sustained by innumerable unbeliefs."

He calls them True Believers; I'm not sure how different that is from fanaticism or cult behavior, although some cults seem less bent on cramming their beliefs down our throats.

I try.

Sometimes I break down and succumb to the temptation to try to educate the terminally stupid, even though I know it's a pointless exercise. But in my stronger moments, I just ignore them and move one.

15. The next time your nephew tries to repeat his lies, quote not only the commandments, but also

Proverbs 6: 16-19

There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.

Proverbs 13:5 The righteous hates falsehood, but the wicked brings shame and disgrace.

Proverbs 11;1-31 A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is his delight. When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom. The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them. Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. The righteousness of the blameless keeps his way straight, but the wicked falls by his own wickedness

I am one of those believers who is well and truly hacked off by right-wingers who claim to be religious and spew lies.

I am told there was a Texas liberal named Bernard Rappoport. He knew his Old Testament as well or better than the lie-spewers on the political right and could quote at length on the iniquities of right-wing practices and beliefts.

19. Religion does awful things to some people.

Makes them self-righteous, closed-minded, intolerant, even dangerous. And not just ISIS. Of course some people use religion as cover, a crutch, to absolve their bad behavior. Many Baptists supported slavery.

On the other hand, I have a relative who is a retired minister and is very liberal, tolerant, caring--what I would probably call "Christ-like."

Well my inlaws. Before we were married one day she asked directly "What do you believe in regarding Jesus Christ?" I told her she won't like my answer let's agree to not discuss. She wouldn't let it drop. So I told her I don't believe in God and the fairy tale called the bible. She blew a gasket. Told my wife on our wedding day not to marry me. A few weeks afer the marriage I told her to let it go if she ever wanted to see her grand kids when we had them.

In my family we are all unclean secularists. No one is religious really.
The closest is my daughter's ex-mother in law who, while very religious, is a really good person who would never push her belief on anyone else.

Epstein's "Orgy Island," he'd better check out the activities of his Lord and Savior Donald J. Trump. One of the lawsuits against Trump involves an underage girl he met via Epstein.

36. My relatives don't dare.

In addition to being an economist, I can yank bible verses a whole heck of a lot better. As for your newphew....

Matthew 19

20 The young man said to him, “I have kept all these; what do I still lack?” 21 Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be perfect, go, sell your possessions, and give the money[c] to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.” 22 When the young man heard this word, he went away grieving, for he had many possessions.

23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

to get dragged into theological debates and comparing and contrasting them with political ideology.

But family is also too important to disown them off because I don't agree with them nor them with me.

Facebook is easy to control. Put them on the "do not follow" setting, that way their posts don't appear on your wall, you remain friends with them so you can keep in contact with them on other things.

Decide one candidate is evil, that makes the other good. It helps that one is a conniving, unclean woman.

Once you can believe that crap, believing that Trump is any sort of godly person is easy, and there are websites that will congratulate you for it. They'll ring the changes on tht lie, repating it to you daily so the facts can't get in.
