Probably used for the newer technology called video or projection mapping. Like when the NBA team shows a pre-game production where you can chess pieces moving around the court and then they simply melt away...those are done by massive powerful projectors.

I refuse to give into the lure of PowerPoint (it makes people dumber, at least temporarily) but I've got several colleagues who use it for presentations, and most have taken to carrying a small projector with their laptops because it's easier to carry their own than hope they can make their machine interface with whatever is in the room. A Pico Cube fits on my palm, weighs about 200 grams, runs for 4 hours on an internal battery, connects via wifi and bluetooth, costs $200 or so, and can throw a low res, mostly static image about 100 feet. I wouldn't want to watch most movies against a building wall with it, but it's fine for signage.

The tech is moving *fast* these days.
