the images to me seem like obvious ones given the situation. It's also perfectly possible that the Time artist was inspired by the various versions of this image since artists do this all the time (as the poster below notes this image predates the Mad Magazine cover).

starting a smear campaign suggesting that Time "stole" the cover. It's a way to distract from the message and undermine the contents as well as play into the "fake news" mythology.
