I know some don't like Louise and Claude, but they've been accurate and waaay ahead of the curve on breaking news lately.
https://patribotics.blog/2017/05/20/exclusive-judiciary-committee-considering-articles-of-impeachment/
Sources further say that the Supreme Court notified Mr. Trump that the formal process of a case of impeachment against him was begun, before he departed the country on Air Force One. The notification was given, as part of the formal process of the matter, in order that Mr. Trump knew he was not able to use his powers of pardon against other suspects in Trump-Russia cases. Sources have confirmed that the Marshal of the Supreme Court spoke to Mr. Trump.
It was reported this week that Mr. Trump had texted Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn the message Stay strong. This might be interpreted as an attempt to intimidate a witness, sources say.
Seems roughly sync'd with this-

Check out the authors on Twitter, they've been out in front and right about so much.

(115,658 posts)This is BS, and it shows that Mensch knows absolutely nothing about the US legal system, the operation of its government, or the Constitution, and it strongly suggests she was either repeating some gossip she heard from some equally ignorant source, or that she was just making shit up. There's so much in this tweet that's just flat-out wrong and impossible factually that whatever credibility I was willing to give her just went down the crapper.

(146,282 posts)We are not seeing them, so it's just speculation. A few members of the House have called for impeachment. Any member can do so. The House Judiciary Committee is not actively pursuing that at this time. If it were, I assure you that it would have been Banner Headline material.
Did you see any such headlines anywhere? Can you find any such headlines by searching Google News? No? Then this story is not actually news at all. It's just Louise Mensch throwing some pasta against the wall to see if it sticks. I did not stick. It slid down the wall and is sitting on the floor behind the kitchen stove.

(115,658 posts)(1) If true, it would have leaked to a reliable source by now. (2) An initial investigation would have conducted by the Judiciary Committee or by a select or special committee, to which investigating and reporting duties are delegated by resolution after charges have been presented. This process would be public information; but since nobody seems to know about it, it's safe to conclude it has not happened. (3) The Supreme Court has no involvement in the impeachment process, which is controlled by the House of Representatives, except that the Chief Justice serves as the presiding judge in the Senate trial. Any notification would come from the House of Representatives. Furthermore, the courts have no power to prevent a president from issuing pardons for federal crimes, since this power is conferred by the Constitution.
So I don't believe it.

(130,825 posts)'Democratic Rep. Al Green of Texas called for the impeachment of President Donald Trump Wednesday morning, the first member of Congress to officially request leveling charges against the President from the House floor.
"This is about my position. This is about what I believe. And this is where I stand. I will not be moved. The President must be impeached," Green said on the floor. "For those who do not know, impeachment does not mean that the President would be found guilty. It simply means that the House of Representatives will bring charges against the President. It's similar to an indictment but not quite the same thing."
Green, who previewed his call with a tweet earlier, said it was the House of Representative's "duty" to take up impeachment.'>>>

(115,658 posts)This can't have happened as she describes because it is not in any respect how the procedure works. It is factually incorrect. Articles of impeachment are not drawn up before the House Judiciary Committee does an investigation, but after; votes are debated and taken publicly; and the Supreme Court wouldn't have warned Trump that any of this was being done to keep him from pardoning anybody because (1) any notification would have come from the House, not the Supreme Court; and (2) the Supreme Court can't prevent a president from pardoning someone for federal crimes because under the Constitution that power belongs exclusively to the president and can't even be appealed.
Read her blog all you want but double-check her facts. She's way off on this.

(11,142 posts)Nothing can prevent Trump pardoning anyone he wants until the minute he leaves office, except perhaps for himself (which is an open question).
Furthermore, impeachment itself is a political question, in which the Supreme Court plays no role. (The Chief Justice plays a largely ceremonial role by presiding over removal trials in the Senate involving the President, but even that is irrelevant unless and until the House votes affirmatively for one or more articles of impeachment.)
And the Marshall of the Supreme Court, sending a "formal notification" to the President?
MineralMan
(146,282 posts)is planning to read. That was about impeaching Barack Obama. At this time, there is no plan in the House Judiciary Committee to impeach Donald Trump. Such a thing is very unlikely at this time, given the Republican majority in the House and on all committees.
Yes, a few Democrats are calling for impeachment, but that is far from meaning what Mensch said. I know it's what a lot of people want to hear, which Mensch is happy to supply, but it is simply not true.

(115,658 posts)the US system of government, the Constitution, or criminal procedure. So when she makes shit up or passes on rumors in her little game of Telephone, she either can't identify something that's flat-out impossible, like this story, or she makes it up or embellishes it by throwing out a lot of words that sound official and legal and all that, but without knowing a damn thing about it. Like this story.

(17,372 posts)The president's pardon power would not be limited by impeachment hearings...and what the hell does the the Marshal of the Supreme Court have to do with...well anything here?
I have to believe that people are just getting a laugh out of this stuff...surely no one is stupid enough to believe it?

(37,648 posts)reading the rules about impeachment, brushing up on what constitutes impeachment, how to do it, etc. That just means they want to be sure they know the procedure and such. That does not mean they are about to file for impeachment or anything close to it.
They're being asked questions, for one thing, so they have to be sure that their answers are correct.
But it IS interesting and titillating, isn't it? That the country is that far along that we need to brush up on that.

(7,006 posts)on this site as Mensch and anything from her is 75% of the time FAKE NEWS!!!
...
Beyond the numbers, the unfounded left-wing claims, like those on the right, are already seeping into the mainstream discourse. In March, the New York Times published an op-ed by Mensch instructing members of Congress as to how they should proceed with the Russia investigation (I have some relevant experience, she wrote). Two months prior to that, Mensch had penned a lengthy letter to Vladimir Putin titled Dear Mr. Putin, Lets Play Chess in which she claims to have discovered that Edward Snowden was part of a years-in-the-making Russian plot to discredit Hillary Clinton.
.....
Take Mensch, who is probably the Russiaspheres most prominent voice. She actually did have one legitimate scoop, reporting in November that the FBI had been granted a warrant to watch email traffic between the Trump Organization and two Russian banks (before anyone else had). Since then, though, her ideas have taken a bit of a turn. In January, she launched a blog Patribotics thats exclusively dedicated to the Trump/Russia scandal. Its ... a lot.
Sources with links to the intelligence community say it is believed that Carter Page went to Moscow in early July carrying with him a pre-recorded tape of Donald Trump offering to change American policy if he were to be elected, to make it more favorable to Putin, Mensch claimed in an April post. In exchange, Page was authorized directly by Trump to request the help of the Russian government in hacking the election.
Another post, allegedly based on sources with links to the intelligence community, claimed that Trump, Mike Pence, and Paul Ryan were all going to be arrested on racketeering charges against the Republican party owing to collaboration with Russia.
Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah, who was the Designated Survivor at the inauguration of Donald Trump (yes, really) is likely to become President, Mensch writes.
Shes also suggested that Anthony Weiner was brought down as part of a Russian plot to put the Clinton emails back in the news:
And that the protests against police brutality in Ferguson were secretly a Russian plot
